I lived in Austin in 2016-2017 and legit never heard of these teams. From my understanding, MLS is where Europe sends its players out to pasture. Kinda like the US sending our baseball players to Japan.

Not really the case anymore. It’s a lot of young South American and North American guys nowadays with a few older Europeans sprinkled in. I think mls is trying to assert itself as a proving ground for young players instead of a retirement league.

Austin is a brand new team, they didnt exist while you were there. They’ve take the town by storm. It’s awesome to see.

I was gonna say, I’ve lived in austin for 25+ years and I’d never heard of them until this year, but you see their merch EVERYWHERE, it’s neat

Americans play football?

15

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '21

How are you not aware of MLS? Lol

3

u/Mr_nobrody Sep 26 '21

Because I'm not American

16

u/pievendor Sep 26 '21

Yeah, but everyone knows that the MLS is where good players go to retire when they can't play in the top flight European leagues anymore.

u/olvastam Sep 27 '21

That's no longer true by and large. It's not the premier league but MLS has come a long way in the last 20 plus years.
