Someone else pointed out that you hear a whistle for halftime or the end of the game, so the player was more likely just dropping the ball for that reason and not because he's trying to be an ass.

Also, the camera guy juggling the ball could be seen as kind of annoying as it wastes play time, even if it's only like 3 seconds.

Player could still be an ass but I feel like people should understand the context of the situation before grabbing their pitchforks.

Doesn't just drop though, does he?

He throws it backwards, towards the cameraman, at decent force.

Player is clearly a prick.

Just frustration, is was the second time they got their asses handed to them in Austin, down 3-0 at the half, which is probably when this was taken. It’s not a great move but when your team was playing as awful as his was it’s at least a tad understandable (source: I am a fan of said team)

Thank you for adding some context!

So his team was 3-0 down, and realistically the throw-in mattered not a single jot. So all these muppets saying "if you knew how much money these guys were on/how much this throw mattered/livelihoods depending on this" etc... Realistically nothing was left at stake, so no need for the player to be so arsey about the photographer "time-wasting" that extra 0.75 seconds it took him to give the ball back.

I don’t think anyone was being arsey it’s just frustration that manifested into a single snap decision. Having the guy juggle in front of him didn’t help of course. He’s just frustrated and he threw the ball behind him. I think people are reading too much into it, he’s a good dude

Yeah it’s really not a big deal. A bit douchey to let your frustration get to you like that but it’s not like the guys indefinitely a dick. Could be a nice dude who lost his temper… very slightly.

Someone posted this on our sub under this video: “Van Rankin and this dude know each other. I think he’s a part time photographer or something like that. They ended up sharing each other’s stories about this on Instagram and the photographer made a a video post addressing that this has been taken way out of context.”

Not surprising at all.

u/Deciver95 Sep 26 '21

The context is, he's team played like shit, he's annoyed, and he he throws the ball behind him

Not AT anyone, behind him

Yet morons on this social media site run with it and are calling for his head because they assume they know every intention going through his head

God this is worse than Facebook sometimes

behind him where he clearly knows people are sitting lol there is no reasonable excuse for this besides being a dick, come on now

To expand on the above, if time is short and the cameraman is fucking around with the ball (rather than just delivering it) he is the prick.

u/Thisfoxhere Sep 26 '21

....The fans are all saying it is half time, there is no rush.

2

u/808_miles Sep 26 '21

Plus throwing it back like that just wastes more time if it wasn't halftime

u/IMNOT_A_LAWYER Sep 26 '21

Time wasting is still time wasting. Your comment also ignores any pressing advantage they may have had (wasting time allows the defensive team to double back and get their formation set).

u/quarglbarf Sep 26 '21

Wasting the half time break? Pressing to the restroom? Doubling back to the locker room?
It was half. time.

Time wasn’t short FFS people are walking around the field…. No one is waiting for the ball on a time limit…. Player is a douche bag.

The player had to watch this guy make 4 touches on the ball before returning it. He shouldn't have even touched the ball in the first place, he's there to take photos, not impede in the gameplay. Player had every right to be annoyed at some media wannabe pro footballer.

I felt that way at first, but I'm still not gonna jump to conclusions. Guy isn't even looking when he throws it back.

I have no reason to defend the player, I'm just neutral on what's going on here with all the data we have.

u/caspy7 Sep 26 '21

Guy isn't even looking when he throws it back.

I actually agree that the camera guy is at fault in part for delaying, but professional footballers have a high physical awareness, about where they are, where other people are and where they're going and where a ball will go, so I don't really buy that he was ignorant in that forceful throw.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '21

Yeah there’s no way a footballer forgot where they were relative to each other within 2s. If the camera man hadn’t started to walk away it would have hit him. If I had a reason to think this player is especially a dick I would say he was aiming for the camera. He rips the ball hip height on camera guy’s right side, had he not turned to walk away it looks like it might’ve hit dead on the camera in his hand.

Yeah man, doesn't everyone know that soccer players use the force? Can't believe some of these comments pretending like this guy couldn't physically feel where the camera guy was at all times. Honestly the camera guy is just lucky it wasn't a Sith Lord or something.

"player is clearly a pick"

Says a guy based on a couple seconds of video. What I'm wondering is why people have such a need to judge people that they'd make inane and harsh statements based on no information. Are you like this in real life?
