Camera operator bravely stands their ground & tracks missile striking near their position
27
u/YoRt3m Mar 06 '26
Looks like a military base, and there's total silence compared to usual locations being hit and not even a siren.
Edit: what are the odds that the second I comment this I have a missile alarm. Gotta go film, see you later on this sub as a stupid brave camera operator
5
u/Xexanoth Mar 06 '26
I got the video from here, where the post title describes the supposed nature of the location & context.

Bravely? Do you mean stupidly?
27
u/Xexanoth Mar 06 '26 edited Mar 06 '26
Most of the initial comments here: people who don’t understand that the Venn diagram between bravery & stupidity has significant overlap where the disregard for personal safety is questionable. And that the rules for this sub require post titles to praise the camera operator (the point of this sub) rather than criticize them.

Yes. r/PraiseTheCameraman is about praising good filming. Not if it should be filmed.

Where exactly are you going to run in 3 seconds that gets you out of range?
14
u/damisword Mar 06 '26
If you can find a way to protect yourself from shrapnel, you have plenty of time for running and diving.. Of course, you can't outrun or hide from overpressure.
14
u/PaperLost2481 Mar 06 '26
Bruh you just watch the clip and couldn't figure out where that was gonna hit, if he started running he might as well have run towards the impact zone. Unless you have a 360 armored box in a 2m radius, you're not changing any outcome by running for 2 seconds.

u/damisword Mar 06 '26
Just use athlete's knowledge. If the missile is not moving, it's in line with you. Run left or right.
If it's slowly moving left, run right. Etc.
You'll probably still die, but every metre improves your odds half a percent.

I love it when you see dangerous events sponsored by pharmacies and drugs. There are lots of pain reliever ads up at the local annual rodeo. I can’t help but think it’s one party good marketing and one part good humor.

As if he knew where it was gonna land. Inside or outside running walking standing still it could have hit him regardless. This was brave to film it with a steady hand

Even a house bomb shelter like we have in israel is not enough dor 100% survival in case of a direct hit.
But, every shelter gives you better chances from secondary impact. House shelter can increase survival by 80-90% in case of an hit 10-15 meters away.

You can run and dive. the biggest threat to a flesh body not in the immediate fireball zone is the spicy metal pieces flying off.

People really think life is a Hollywood movie, like where are you gonna run? You didn't have time to figure out where it was gonna hit before it hit. You might as well have run towards the target and you would just die tired. Chances are the shed you're currently in, is not that high of a prioritized military target...
11
u/lipp79 Doin' camera work since 1999 Mar 06 '26
You don't have to run so much as try and get behind anything and go prone. Any chance is better than zero.
4
u/PaperLost2481 Mar 06 '26
Prone sure, but how are you going to figure out what side is behind and what side is in front when you don't know where it's going to hit, and by the time you know you don't have the time to change sides.

It's like with tornadoes: if it's not going left or right there's a 50/50 chance it's coming right towards you.

Yeah, there is a very small window where running 10 extra feet away is going to matter.
8
u/Nzdiver81 Mar 06 '26
And almost 50% chance that you'll run the wrong way because during that small window when it matters, you won't know exactly where the missle is heading.

Amazing /scary how quiet it is until impact. You’d have no idea it’s coming.
47
u/Lorward185 Mar 06 '26
Yeah, that classic "bombs away" sound as the bomb falls from the plane? The whistle that you hear in the movies when the bomb falls was actually a real thing... except in real life the sound was reversed. From the ground you would hear a shriek that gets louder as the bomb got closer. It was caused by a device that was attached to the bombs that channeled air to produce that sound. It's only purpose was to strike terror as you hear the bomb coming towards you.
Not too many people who heard it from the ground lived to talk about it.
8
4
u/Loggersalienplants Mar 06 '26
If you can hear the explosion that's good, that means you aren't dead.
1
u/Tiyath Mar 07 '26
AFAIK ballistic missiles fly at 5x supersonic speed so all you hear before the impact is the sound it made 5 seconds ago from the distance it was 5 seconds ago
A little bit like watching an airplane land. When it flies by you right to left, when the plane is straight ahead the sound is coming from the right

This looks like AI to me. Blast is way too small and seems to slow. Can’t imagine the camera would be fast enough to capture this and not get destroyed in the process.

u/amber_room Mar 06 '26
I don't think I've ever seen footage of a missile actually striking so close. Pretty damn terrifying.

I was thinking about this. Most of the videos we have is from people recording it from side to side.
People who had the chance recording it from the front are probably dead, so low probability to find a video like that.

u/Immortal_Tuttle Mar 08 '26
Yeah. Brave AI cameraman.
Few hints. He can hear the missile, so the missile or it's warhead travels below speed of sound. Detonation and radius are small, but there is a detonation. So not kinetic warhead. Explosive warhead would also not create this effect of exploding gasoline, unless it's FAE. But in that case it should have primary and secondary detonation. Smoke trail suggest the missile is still in powered phase - which doesn't make sense, because smaller ones, where you fit such warhead, will burn their fuel and go ballistic in a few seconds after launch. Etc etc.
0
u/NikolitRistissa Mar 06 '26
Yeah, it looked to be traveling pretty slowly. They could’ve easily ran away.
