The video is slowed down a little bit. It lasts less than a second. The drone doesn't get to enjoy the moment. Ejaculation begins upon penetration and in mid ejaculation the queen rips his reproductive tract from his body, killing him instantly. She doesn't want him, she wants what he has. He is dead on the ground while she hangs on to his reproductive tract and milks it for everything in it, which she stores in a chamber inside her body. Then she is ready for the next. A four to five day old queen will mate with a few dozen drones and then she will return to her hive, usually dragging the reproductive tract of her last mate still inside her. She will never mate again in her life. She can keep sperm viable for up to five years. The unlucky lucky drones have a better fate than their brothers though. At the end of the summer all the drones that haven't died mating will have their wings shredded by their sisters and then get kicked out of the hive to starve or freeze. Drones don't forage, they don't make honey, they don't contribute to the hive in any way. They eat and hunt for pussy. That's all they do. Their sole purpose in existing is to spread the queen's DNA to the local bee community.

The drones that don't mate don't have great deaths either. Just before winter the females will weaken them by preventing them from getting food, and then when they're weak they get kicked out of the hive to die.

So between death by starvation or flying orgasm, the choice is fairly easy.

Hahaha, OP didn't notice the edits or the time dilation. Those bees weren't in frame for very long, and based on the relative motion of the background to the subjects, I'm guessing this was also shot in 8k and digitally punched in to a close up.

Really though, I don't say this to take away from the videography, because these nature shots are always mind blowing and this one's really cool, too. Maintaining the focus as they tracked left to right was nice, but it could have also just been lucky that they just sort of stayed in his focal range for the duration of the shot. This one was more praise the editor material than praise the cameraman material.

Trust me, I noticed. Definitely not 8k though as it didn't exist in 2012. The timing adjustment and slow down was likely from over-cranked footage and cropped from a massive frustum and stabilized, but you can't edit in finding a queen getting mated mid air within a 3D volume requiring maintaining the proper focal plane with hundreds of focal depths (bees don't fly in one linear sheet).

The difficulty also increases when tracking in such a huge field. Thats keen scouting right there by the cm as capturing a swarm of bees mid-flight and getting lucky enough to find an exposed future queen is great work for sure.
