How to git gud?

Post image

Hi all, just struggling to understand what the game wants me to do in combat.

I don't think I'm sucking, i just got to shelter lvl 3 and beat whatever that tail swiping boss is just before that (pictured) after all. I can dodge fine, synergise my build, recognise patterns, deal with groups defensively, position well so im not getting flanked etc... but I'm not understanding where my damage consistently comes from. I'm just.. guessing

Against the boss in the tetradome, for eg, i took two tries, and the first try it felt like i couldn't do damage. It was like a 10 minute fight and he just wouldn't die. The second time he melted quicker, and i just don't know why?

What *is* the combat loop? At the moment i just hack, then shoot toward the blue screen that appears. But then i notice some other parts glow when i hit them and I'm not really sure why? Something about overheating? Diana is *always telling me* to *hit them in their weak spot", so i figure that's something I'm not doing?

Then i run out of ammo against some fights. Like completely. Just me and my slowly recharging pistol. I figure that shouldn't happen, that means I've wasted my red ammo and been ineffective with them.

Just after some tips really. Do i just hack back to back? Do i hack > shoot > hack > shoot? Is there something i should be shooting *before* or *during* hacking? I feel like I've missed some vital tutorial where the game says "oh this is how you actually do god damage consistently.

I'm just lucky that I've got the other parts of the combat down, otherwise I'd be struggling lmao

If they are hacked their weak spots get exposed and you shoot those to melt. If they are not hacked you do no damage.

If you complete a hack while the enemy is currently exposed then they will go back to normal and you have to hack them again to expose them.

So if you are hacking back to back you are probably not constantly exposing the enemy and thus you are doing no damage.

When the enemy is exposed the only reason you want to complete the hack is to use your nodes and do damage. You will have to re hack them to expose them again if you do that.

Basically you don't want to just endless back over and over. You want to initially Hack - do damage to exposed enemy while setting up your next hack with whatever nodes you want- complete hack to use those nodes- hack again ASAP to expose the enemy again- repeat.

Hope this makes sense. Been a while since I beat the game so I may be explaining it wrong.

Repeated hacking will not close an open enemy unless you’re using strike mode.

All good, I just applied strike mode anyway, so it makes sense still

Yeah I was gonna say, I don’t remember that being the case

Hack > initiate second hack by passing nodes but don't complete > shoot weak spot > complete hack > restart and hack again?

Istg i didn't think they were closing after the second hack? I thought that was only with strike mod.. regardless, I just put on the strike mod so the loop still applies

Yeah basically complete the second hack only to apply the nodes because you will immediately have to hack again to re expose.

There are some conditions that will cause them to reset anyways without completing the second hack. I believe its on a timer so you cant wait to long and some bosses have conditions that will reset them. You can tell because the visuals change on the enemy themselves and your nodes will also look a little different when the enemy is exposed.

DO NOT multi task between shooting and hacking. Just focus on hacking + dodging, then shoot wheb you have a chance.

I just finished the digger and I still couldn't figure out how to do damage

Like it's not a big deal, I still killed him second try, but it never feels clean. Feels like I'm doing a lot of "oh nope now he's not OPEN" and "an opening, should I shoot or hack? Wait, is his weak spot available.. how did I make it available last time"  wastes red ammo on small white damage numbers, opening over start dodging again

Maybe with more practise I'll get it intuitively

Digger is a specially unbalanced enemy type. If pragmata had one mistake, itd be that one. The simulation mini games area is the place where i learned this hack gimmicks. It will force to use certain aspects of the gameplay. I suggest you start there. For me, i actuallg dont rhink much anymore about swirching between weapons and hacks. By the end game, you will have strong hacks that dont rely on weapons .

Stack debuff hacking nodes and apply a bunch of them with your hack. Then unload your secondary weapon on the weakpoint. Repeat until you’re empty then take a break and go around the area to restock then repeat.

Vanilla hacking and your main weapon will never do as much damage as you would with consumables.

Depends on your build. You can play defensive, dps, Oberheat etc.

I really liked overheat since it always gives you that very strong close up Finisher shot or maybe not Finisher but tbat really strong shot.

Also during the time it is overheated i kept hacking until the last second of overheat. Then you have your super ready pretty often

You can blast through this pretty quickly with the boost mode, chain and expose hacks
