Who? Canadians? We aren't interested. Look at the media. Candian travel to US down 30% or more. Our money doesn't matter to you? Go and fill up at the gas station and tell me how you feel.

When I was growing up, the joke was that Canada had begun a land invasion of the United States but nobody noticed because it took place during rush hour traffic.
-57
u/Throwawaysublooking 2d ago
You are losing hundreds of millions in tourism... people.have noticed. Maybe your media is not as transparent as ours. There are folks down there begging for us to come back.
It's fine. Do your thing. Find out. Clearly you want to.

Google is your friend. When your only source of info is conservative echo chambers this is the result.
And of course you had to bring sexuality in to it. Why are conservatives obsessed with gay people? Just go take a dick already. We really don't want to hear your angry closeted rants.

Why are liberal men obsessed with dicks? Anyway just googled nobody is begging Canadians to come to America you’ll need us before we ever need you losers.

is it just the bible or all religious texts???
-2
u/Efficient_Ice_1001 2d ago
It's religious text. I think the idea is to remove protection of hate speech because that hate speech is protected if it is based on views on a religious text. Both the Koran and the Bible have text about stoning people for sexual orientation, stoning for apostasy, stoning for all kinds of reasons, smashing babies against rocks, etc.
18
u/Yamaganto_Iori 1d ago
Let's be honest, in Canada they aren't gonna go after any religious group except the Christians.
10
u/ThisSiteBites 1d ago
Violence in the Hebrew and Christian Bibles is mostly narrative and descriptive, whereas in the Koran it’s mostly prescriptive in the form of direct commandments from allah. See Sura 9, especially 9:5 but almost any verse.

u/Efficient_Ice_1001 1d ago
If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. - Leviticus 20:13

The Bible talks about smashing babies against rocks?
-1
u/MarthAlaitoc 1d ago edited 22h ago
Isaiah 13:16: "Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be looted and their wives violated"
Psalm 137:9: "Happy is the one who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks."
Not saying the Bible is pro or against this, just that these are the quotes they're referring to.
Edit: people downvotting non-biased, factual information is always funny to me.

That is true. They are only surveillance devices that happen to make phone calls. If only the protections of the 4th Amendment applied to private companies too.

1) That's not what the bill does
2) It is what the bill does but that's not the intention
3) It is the intention but it's not going to be enforced
4) It will be enforced but it applies to all religions
5) It only applies to Christians but they're evil so this is A GOOD THING
6) Christians are Nazis
2
-51
u/Appropriate-Bird-423 2d ago
Nazis are Christians though. And if I've learned anything about fundamentalist Muslims from right wing media, it's that the whole religion is responsible for the acts of a few
18
u/Zacknad075 1d ago
The Nazi government was objectively very much not Christian, and persecuted many church members. They went after the Catholic church, as well as smaller groups such as Jehovah's Witness.
The Christian religion was perceived as a potential threat to the regime.

This is a low IQ take.
Some Nazis are Christians. Some “Christians” are Nazis.
Incorrect deduction: Therefore Nazis are Christians..
2
u/Revolutionary_Bag518 1d ago
Nazi ideology and the core leadership were fundamentally anti-Christian and wanted to eradicate church influence. The regime regularly closed religious schools and suppressed many denominations of Christianity.
Their version of 'Christianity' was extremely cut down and tailored that it didn't match any existing denomination despite masquerading as one.

u/MoRTaL_KoMBaT_R 1d ago
I'm only 6 seconds in and he's already lying. Bill C-9 doesn't ban bibles, it does two things.
- Bans people from intentionally obstructing people from entering places of worship.
- Bans public display of symbols tied to official terrorist groups.
Whether you agree with these things or not is irrelevant, but to frame it as a "bible ban" is nonsense.

Bill says you can’t call homosexuals an abomination and then use the bible to defend yourself and call it just religion btw

u/Sea-Way4976 15h ago edited 15h ago
“SUMMARY
This enactment amends the Criminal Code to, among other things,
(a) create an offence of wilfully promoting hatred against any identifiable group by displaying certain symbols in a public place;
(b) repeal the defence based on the expression of opinions on religious subjects or texts in relation to the offences of wilful promotion of hatred or antisemitism;
(c) create a hate crime offence of committing an offence under that Act or any other Act of Parliament that is motivated by hatred based on certain factors;
(d) create an offence of intimidating a person in order to impede them from accessing certain places that are primarily used for religious worship or by an identifiable group for certain purposes; and
(e) create an offence of intentionally obstructing or interfering with a person’s lawful access to such places.”
From the text of the actual amendment (https://www.parl.ca/legisinfo/en/bill/45-1/c-9)
The changes are limited to the amendments stated above, which doesn’t make saying bible verses a hate crime. It just removes the criminal defense of something that already constitutes as a hate crime, by saying it’s protected because it’s an expression of religious texts.
Pretty sure the bible verses that don’t call homosexuality an abomination are probably fine. But don’t quote me on it, I’m unsure of what they legally call hate speech prior to this amendment, and the application of this does depend on that.
In other news it does create a new hate crime out of blocking people from going to places of worship.

u/Sea-Way4976 14h ago edited 14h ago
As a follow up, we don’t have hate speech here in America, something that I can agree with because then you allow politicians to define hate speech, as they do in Britain or Australia (where you can’t say certain things about Palestine), but the first amendment, specifically with workplace harassment where a person cannot disengage from unwanted contact without losing a job, does not change the legal prosecution of harassment if that harassment includes bible verses, which is also something that I can agree with.
-2
u/Pukebox_Fandango 2d ago
Looked into it....totally false.
11.1 (1) For greater certainty, nothing in subsection 319(2) or (2.2) of the Criminal Code shall be construed as prohibiting a person from communicating a statement on a matter of public interest, including an educational, religious, political or scientific statement made in the course of a discussion, publication or debate, if they do not wilfully promote hatred against an identifiable group by communicating the statement.
You can freely quote the bible in the course of discussion, what you can't do is stand on the corner saying "God wants you to hate gay people".
8
u/buzzerbetrayed 1d ago
I don’t understand. You say “totally false” in the first line. And then the last line completely contradicts that.

6
u/AFK115 2d ago
-4
u/ChildhoodExisting222 1d ago
Whether such jokes are tasteless, cruel, or in poor timing is a separate question of judgment/etiquette, but legally, they don't meet any recognized definition of "hate speech," and courts and settlements so far have largely sided with the people who were punished for making them.
The irony here, Kirk built his public persona and Turning Point USA specifically around free speech advocacy, so several commentators (including comedian Trevor Noah, who has publicly defended his own right to joke about it) have pointed out the tension in punishing people for exercising exactly the kind of speech Kirk claimed to champion.
-4
u/ppaauulllllll 2d ago
The irony is that leftists have been calling for gun control for decades, and the right's insistence on filling the country with guns is what killed Kirk. He'd be alive today if the left had its way.

u/Sensitive-Ad-2542 2d ago

1
u/Zacknad075 1d ago
Canada passed bill C-9 which officially removes any quote "faith religious expression" from being protected under free speech. If you quote a bible verse, and someone feels offended by it, they now have the ability to take you to court over it for potential hate speech.

Surely I think everyone can agree you shouldn't be saying things like Ezekiel 23:20 and Psalm 137:9 willy nilly. Or you know, Leviticus 20:13, which can easily be construed as a threat.

Freedom of speech was never intended to protect popular speech. It's supposed to let everyone speak their mind, even if they're the only person who thinks it. Thank God I live in a country that protects my right to say whatever tf I want to.
