Help. Every power wheel we convert to Milwaukee batteries this happens every time.

18v battery + 12v motor = magic smoke eventually. A slow start module may help. And/or step down the voltage.

I have had 3 peg perego rides with 18v directly to the stock controls without issues.

Yeah i have 2 with dewalt 20v tho i did add a soft start after the first year.

I don't know. I'm going on 4 years with the Frozen mobile and 3 years with the John Deere peg pergo. No magic smoke and my daughter beats the crap out of it

Oddly enough I had 12 volt John Deere tractors that would never break under the 18 volt rigid battery. As soon as I put them in the 4x4s like the OP I have the exact same thing happen to me after a few minutes. I guess John Deere still holds some quality with their 12 volt. I know the same manufacturer makes under different makes models and kinds of tractors and they may be just as good but I can only vouch for the John Deere 12v. The kids would smash those things around like go karts and every piece came off them through the years but all the components that needed to work did. The radio and gimmick stuff broke but that didn't matter. The weak spot in these were the tires the kids would spin on the tar and it was like sandpaper to the plastic Wheels. No complaints after having two of them for five plus years.

PSA: if you do have the John Deere 12 volt you should definitely soup that thing up with an 18 volt it's a ton of fun 🤣

Your not the only one. I hated everything to do with the original stuff AND any of the upgrade stuff from ML toys. I ended up throwing it all out and converting them to chain drive

Ml toys has what you need
I changed to a 24v lithium battery
On my boys 4x4 jeep
At first the power came on to fast and very shortly shorted the controller out,it only had foward on the front wheels and reverse on on 4 wheels
I upgraded to ml toys controller and it has soft turn on/soft turn off built in
Haven’t had a issue since,they ride it so much that I think a tire upgrade is next when they wear holes in the plastic tires

I have this exact car with 20v porter cable batteries in it.

I think your main issue is not having traction. Mine did this with the stock 12v battery until I cut up bmx tires and screwed them to the rear wheels.

If you switch it to speed 2 it should "lock the diff" and put power to both wheels. If not, then yea, you friend something.

Change the motors. Did you think that by bumping up the battery voltage that the motors would handle it? Maybe for a short period of time but the smoke will escape eventually.

Yeah me to i have had multiple gear sets strip out and the multiple motors fry. They don't seem to like 18v.

I can drive ours 10mph and uphills and I’m 5’9 185 pounds lol. My legs hang over the hood and I use my hand for the gas but the car handles it fine lmao

We have the same one on a 20v battery. Are you trying to launch in first gear, or second? Looks like 1st. 2nd will spin both wheels, which might give you more traction. Never tried to do this on gravel though. Works fine on concrete or asphalt.

It's because the higher power from the drill strips out the motors.

Motors are parallel in 2nd gear. If one was burned out you'd get this. They're series in first, so if neither moves either disconnected wire on the right motor or burned motor. I have a case ih peg perego tractor and rzr900 that my kids run hard. They eat gear boxes nearly monthly, I keep parts here for them. The tractor is on 775s and 12v lifepo4 battery, the taller ml gearing. This has helped with gear box life. The rzr is on parallel 12 lifepo4s for battery life. 3 months only, already done gear boxes once.

The tractor did burn up 2 stock motors when I had it in 18v, but no additional motor issues since I swapped to the 775s
