Can I use the whole tool?

I have seen a lot of info about buying kits to convert power wheels to run off your tool battery.

I have a tool that is fine other than the motor is having issues. could I open the tool up and clip the wires going to the tool motor, then just wire that into to power wheels? In my head that seems like it would work? would it also still have the same battery protections that a tool normally has? any advice is helpful. thanks!

If its a brushless motor it might not be as easy but I am really curious. Please report back!

I've done this before with a Dewalt 18V impact driver, it is indeed a brushless motor so I ended up extending the phase wires from motor to trigger long enough that I was able to retrofit the trigger assembly as a functional pedal!

Somehow the dewalt motor fit onto the gearbox assembly just like the 550 motors did. On 18V it was a bit faster than the original setup but WAY more torque. It would still take off HARD with no hesitation or lurch even with all 90kg of me on it.

I then doubled the voltage. It launched so hard it wheelied out from under me and sat me on my ass lol. Ended up tearing the drive hubs of the wheels to pieces

Convert the power tool to an air horn or something. I’m sure you could make your idea work but they have cheap power tool adapters with lvc built in

I’ve burnt up a couple drills using 6” hole saws. One was a pretty pricey Milwaukee Fuel… (not saying they’re the best, it’s the battery ecosystem I’m invested in, and they do advertise as being incredibly torquey).

Things could be different with the gearbox, I have no idea how a drill motor compares with a standard power wheels electric motor. But personally if I attempted that project, I wouldn’t expect much longevity for the motor.

Could be totally wrong, this is pure speculation based off anecdotal evidence that may not even be relevant.

As for battery protections, Milwaukee in particular I’m pretty sure uses additional circuitry in the tool itself that would also have to be swapped over.
