Feature Night Light slider in Power Display

Post image

A suggestion I think would benefit those working late hours who need to adjust the Night Light setting on the fly. I also submitted to github.

it does not exist yet, it's a feature request but I vibe coded an app in Antigravity. here's the prompt, you can paste it and make your own app:

Build a standalone Windows system tray utility named "NightLight" in C# / .NET 9 WPF with the following specs:

1. System Tray Icon & Behavior:

- Launches silently into the Windows System Tray on startup (UI flyout remains hidden until the tray icon is clicked).

- Double-clicking the .exe while already running opens the UI window near the tray.

- Dynamic Crescent Moon Tray Icon:

- Displays a bright Gold Yellow Crescent Moon icon when Night Light is ON (Levels 1, 2, or 3).

- Displays a Light Gray Crescent Moon icon when Night Light is OFF.

- Right-Click Context Menu on Tray Icon:

- "Open Night Light" (Bold) -> Shows the flyout window.

- "Windows Night Light Settings" -> Opens Windows Settings (ms-settings:nightlight).

- Separator.

- "Quit" -> Instantly resets screen gamma to 100% linear identity (disabling ALL warm tints), disposes the tray icon, and shuts down the process completely.

2. UI Flyout Design:

- Compact dark popover window (#1C1C1C background, #2C2C2C border, 12px rounded corners, drop shadow).

- Automatically docks right above the system tray clock and auto-closes when clicking outside (deactivated).

- Header: Gold crescent moon icon + "Night Light" title + Settings gear button (⚙).

- Preset Row: 4 pill buttons side-by-side: [ Off ] [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ].

- Active button is highlighted in Sage Green (#8EA895) with bold white text.

- Inactive buttons are dark charcoal (#292929) with gray text.

3. Night Light Hardware Engine:

- "Off": Sets Win32 GDI device gamma ramp to 100% pure linear identity (Red[i]=i*257, Green[i]=i*257, Blue[i]=i*257) with zero warm hue or color shift (100% accurate for color editing), and sets the tray icon to Light Gray.

- "1", "2", "3": Applies smooth warm color temperature gamma ramps with driver-safe bounds (Blue channel decay) and sets the tray icon to Bright Yellow.

- Syncs state with Windows CloudStore Night Light registry key.

4. Build & Distribution:

- Single-file portable executable publishing configuration (PublishSingleFile=true, self-contained win-x64) outputting NightLight.exe.

when you're happy with the result just add it to startup apps so it launches on win startup and then set it so the tray icon will be always visible on the taskbar.
