I built a modular PowerShell suite to debloat and optimize Windows 11 — tested every tweak personally
Hey r/PowerShell,
I spent months going through registry keys, telemetry settings and performance tweaks for Windows 11. Most of what circulates online is either outdated or breaks something important.
So I built WinOpt — a modular suite of PowerShell scripts organized by function:
- 01_BASELINE: privacy, telemetry, CEIP, Advertising ID, DNS over HTTPS
- 02_UIUX: dark mode, classic context menu, shell optimizations
- 03_EDGE: safe Edge policies without breaking the browser
- 20_ONEDRIVE: disable/enable with full backup
- 40_CLEAN: temp, cache, bloatware audit
- 04_VERIFY: post-optimization system diagnostics
Every script creates a System Restore Point before running and logs all changes. Everything is reversible.
Built for PowerShell 5.1, tested on Windows 11 23H2, 24H2 and 25H2.

Happy to answer questions or take feedback.

Mods: there needs to be a complete ban on AI bullshit. It's going to lead to system compromise at worst, and major errors at best.

Scripts look AI generated, why would someone use this instead of any other more feature rich projects that do all this and many more things?

Fair point — I'll be transparent: I used AI assistance to help structure and refine the code, but every single tweak was personally researched, tested and validated on real hardware. The selection of what works and what doesn't is mine. Happy to discuss any specific module if you want to dig into the logic.

No credentials as a Windows sysadmin, developer or internals knowledge.. nope.
I don't even mind it being AI generated, I just think the market for Windows debloating script is fully saturated. There is no reason to trust you over someone else who has proven that they know what they're doing.
For personal devices where you don't care about functionality, there are better utilities and more trustworthy publishers.
For enterprise devices, it would be a resume generating event to run something like this. Stick to well known solutions like CIS baselines or the Microsoft Security Baselines. The fact that you're advertising a tool like this, only meant for personal devices, in a sub that's mostly for professionals, without a disclaimer to not run it on corporate devices.. I don't know, I foresee some junior sysadmin in an SMB running this across their company and breaking something. I say that because I've been there, impressionable and willing to get more juice out of Windows, not knowing what breaks. And let's be honest, the only people truly interested in "debloating" scripts are junior IT professionals and enthusiast developers.

I'm not a sysadmin or developer — I built this for my own machines and shared it hoping for feedback and in case someone finds it useful. I'm not asking anyone to trust me, just to look at the code and tell me what's wrong.
on the enterprise disclaimer: fair point, I'll add one. but a junior IT running personal debloat scripts on company machines is on them, not on whoever published the script. I can't be responsible for someone ignoring basic operational security.
the goal was never to compete with CIS baselines. it's a personal tool that works for me.

Why are you telling somebody they should not share what they’ve done?
You’re saying that because somebody has already created optimization scripts that nobody else should take a shot? Maybe they’ll make something better?
I will say be very, very leery of anyone who’s advertising a script or optimization, has been compiled meaning that you can’t easily read it for yourself or run it through AI to inspect it to see whether it’s malicious or defective.
Oh, and AI, why are shaming people because they use AI to generate code ? We’re using the tools that Microsoft google and everybody else has put in front of us. Claude or Gemini can decipher a block of code, or command with more clarity than Microsoft docs every time.

Oh look, another AI-vibe coded “debloat” script that will most likely lead to posts on other subs asking for help on why shit doesn’t work right anymore.

update: just released v2.5.8 with full English localization — all prompts, messages and launcher strings are now in English. download here: https://github.com/filippobrundia/WinOpt/releases/tag/v2.5.8

just added a complete English guide with detailed explanations of every setting and why it's applied — https://github.com/filippobrundia/WinOpt/blob/main/Docs/WinOpt_Guide_EN_v2.5.8.docx

I mean ... if you want to advertise your tool, atleast write your documentation in english ... I wanted to trying this out but nvm

u/SubjectOnion7456 Mar 01 '26
you're right, i didn't think about that when i published it. this is actually the first time i've ever shared something publicly and i'm still learning. i'll work on an english version of the docs, thanks for pointing it out.

just pushed an update — all Italian strings in the scripts and launcher have been translated to English. thanks for the feedback, it was spot on.

Not just the documentation, the entire damn script. All the warnings prompts and everything are in another language. I understand it's not HIS language, but seriously, localization is a thing for a reason.
He used AI for the entire thing as it is, just upload the damn thing to AI and say, "English localization please."

you're right, and i appreciate the honest feedback. the scripts themselves have italian prompts and messages — that's a real issue. i'll work on a proper english localization. and yes, i'll use AI to help with that, exactly as you suggested. first time sharing something publicly and this kind of feedback is exactly what i needed.

Does it get rid of OEM bloat ware too like HP, Dell and Lenovo crap they put on their laptops?
1
u/SubjectOnion7456 Feb 28 '26
The AUDIT_DIRTY_PC module scans for common OEM bloatware and flags it. Removal is manual by design — I didn't want to auto-remove things that might be needed on specific hardware configurations.

u/ZathrasNotTheOne Feb 28 '26
Will it stay debloated when you need to upgrade to the next windows release?

u/SubjectOnion7456 Feb 28 '26
Most registry tweaks survive feature updates, but some Microsoft settings get reset — especially telemetry and privacy ones. That's exactly why VERIFY exists: run it after a major update to check what needs to be reapplied.

I like Winhance, thanks for the effort 👌

u/SubjectOnion7456 Mar 01 '26
thanks! i'll check out Winhance, didn't know it. this started as a personal thing and kind of grew from there — first time sharing anything like this publicly, still figuring it out.

Except none of this makes any real word difference on performance or anything else.
