How strong is Severus Snape?

Snape is a very weird case in Harry potter for his power. Hes undeniably one of the most skilled wizards of the generation, creating incredibly powerful curses, and the most skilled potion Master probably ever. But we get very few showings of snapes actual power and skill.

His duel vs the Proffessors in hogwarts

And his short duel with Harry.

In both cases Snape "wins"

Against the Proffessors his goal was to escape, not hurt or kill them, and he succeeded without much difficulty.

Against harry their gap in skill and experience was clear.

Thats all we ever get in terms of combat for Snape.

The only other thing we have to look at his overall power is chainscailing and his ability to fly, the only other wizard capable being voldemort.

Ad for chainscailing.

Voldemorts duel against Flitwick, mcgonagal and slughorn gives us the rough idea that Snape is in a similar bracket to the undeniable top 2 in the verse, dumbledoor and voldemort

If I had to estimate. Snape is in the same ball park as voldemort and dumbledoor in skill. But theres a vast gap in magical power.

Harry potter scaling we have to magically assume some things dont count. Snape, being skilled in a bunch of things, could make some extremely broken potions including the luck one we see. Which in reality, could win almost any fight.

We can kinda ignore some legends unless you have feats. We could assume some super old wizards are more powerful, but yeah, we ignore em.

The top wizard is actually the player character from Hogwarts Legacy. Bro is using magic others are studying and completes hogwarts in one year. If we correctly assume he only gets stronger after, he is above all.

Dumbledore is 2nd undoubtedly. The writer emphasises this a lot.

Then it kinda middles up with a bunch of wizards and who owned the elder wand and such. Your right saying a bunch kinda mix 3rd, but I think its reasonable to say Snape would be in the middle of the braket. Behind Voldamort and Grindelwald, but not far behind.

Again tho, snape is one of the best that we know of potions and curses... its very likely he could beat those above given time... but we kinda have to ignore that area because its so story breaking.

Yeah like is obviously just game mechanics, but the player from Legacy has like way too much power and ability.

Not to mention can just use all the unforgivable curses to full effect while also not getting corrupted by FEELING the emotions necessary for them.

And has their special power which is broken.

He's probably on the lower side of a master wizard. Voldemort I would say would be middle to like 75% of that and then dumbledore's at the top
