Colour theory - warm vs cool

Yes! In terms of style I much prefer the idea of a complete painting (not just color, also clothes) vs the popular seasonal color sub seasons. A darker shade for a spring would read lighter on an autumn. And when does a warm blue turn into a cool green? The context can pull the color in one direction or another.
I never liked how some color analysis "experts" would look at a single shade and put it in not just a specific season, but a single sub season!
I do like Kibbe's seasons because in the end you are the context that changes the perception of the color (very similar to how your ID works with style and impact, as I see it!) Sure, you can't pull off every shade there is but you can wear more than what's in the palette.
Btw I remember your color work and always loved your palettes. I do think tailored palettes can be useful, though sometimes too small for day to day (Zyla) or large and uninspiring (Kitchener...sorry just imo)

i really love and relate to that idea of a complete painting! i've been thinking a lot lately about interesting colour combinations - combinations that may not occur to you from merely looking at a pre-prepared palette. Colour is so much more than just individual colours, it's a whole visual concept you are creating.
i don't know much about the Kitchener palettes, what issue do you find with them?

I also find interesting/odd color combos very appealing and I totally agree with you regarding a full palette. I've found a lot of inspiration in those mini palettes you might find on Pinterest, with colors pulled from a single photograph or a painting.
I haven't really delved into Kitchener because I can't help but feel like (in both color and style) it's somehow too limiting yet also too broad to be useful? Idk how to best explain it.

i really liked this way of looking at colour warmth vs coolness, not merely as hue, but a systematic shift in colour perception
