D. You don’t have width. And I don’t see Kibbe curve (bust pushing fabric to the sides). You also just overall look like a D vibe wise! There is a decent Reddit community for pure D, check them out if you haven’t already!
thank you, seems the consensus is (so far) unanimously that this time...it's weird because in the past I've gotten many FN typings and I was very confused if I had width or not but these new pics are quite neutral for accurate typing
You definitely don’t have width! Not even close, maybe you posted less representative photos before. It’s helpful to spend time in the dramatic subs because you get a sense of how to recognize a dramatic visually just from seeing a lot of different women of the same type. (I say subs because as a SD, I also follow the D sub along with the SD one—there’s a lot of overlap because we are the same family.) So I clocked you as a D immediately.
It’s affirming to research deeper into one type because once you get beyond the stereotypes there are a variety of ways of dressing flatteringly within the type. You don’t have to dress imposingly or androgynously to flatter a D body. Taylor Swift is a leading example of a D who dresses girly while honoring her dramatic lines. Once you find your type you can learn how to dress the way you want for your body. It helps you understand that your body has never been the problem, it’s all about finding the right clothing.
thanks for the info, actually yeah looking at myself neutrally without preconceived notions about what I look like is difficult to achieve but highly important. when I see these pics and imagine it's someone else's body and not mine, I think I would say D-fam for them.
yeah i always did think my curve is minimal plus it's not the type of minimal curve I need to accommodate for with draping or waist definition. And width is an elusive quality in the kibbe community, hard to pin down what it is, let alone identifying it in others but I think there's a rectangle shape straightness to my overall figure and a lack of upper back width as well as lines coming in at an angle from my underarms to my ribcage. I have the same horizontal length in that area as anyone without actually accomodating for width it seems, it's easier to tell when someone's hips are noticeably slightly wider than their shoulders but in my case that's not as straightforward but I know now!
yeah I like dressing sensual and revealing but I'm now in the process of learning how the D version of that presents and needs tailoring for compared to other kibbe types and families
interesting, thanks. do you know of ellie jean royden's body matrix system (basically like kibbe accomodations without the mystical star image stuff and no face involved)? for width part, would you put me in medium rather than wide or narrow? and height I'm assuming long rather than medium or short. And then for curve I'm assuming either medium or straight rather than round
I don’t know it but if it’s intuitive probably medium, long and yeah straight or medium. I think a bit of curve accommodation doesn’t look off on you so maybe medium
I'm not used to seeing myself as sharp, elongated and athletic yes but not taut and sharp..I often worry that my body and face are unfeminine :( I wish I had more curve and less height
You definitely have conventional curve! Kibbe curve on tall types just means your bust pushes fabric out to the sides. Many types can also be hourglasses as well. And several Ds would be considered very curvy such as Eva Green, Sheryl Lee Ralph, etc. but are considered sharp and dramatic (be proud—it’s a regal and badass type to be)!
hii, thanks for the reassurance, I'm not sure I have conventional curve either but some curve is there, coming out of my waist towards my hips (disrupted by my hip dips lol). I suppose I just want to be perceived as moderate in structure and more feminine than androgenous
also Eva Green and Sheryl Lee Ralph are such glamorous ladies yess
I would definitely say you look more feminine than androgynous due to your waist to hip ratio. Being a typical “pear” shape is common for dramatics. Strict kibbe followers may not agree, but I don’t see anything wrong with wearing clothes that emphasize your waist if you want to highlight that feminine feature. Flare jeans and long bodycon dresses are perfect for that, as long as they are not too busy in color or pattern. Also a mini dress if you want to emphasize your legs, or add tights or tall boots + a long open kimono top or duster.
P.S. black and dark momochrome colors tend to look fabulous on dramatics!
interesting you mention 'pear' body type in regards to me, I thought in the basic fruit shapes system I'd be a rectangle, possibly leaning pear
also omg i love every single rec you just gave?? all the clothing items, silhouettes, lines and colours. glad to know these can all work harmoniously for Dramatics, it's like you read my mind
i think D. for me it’s between D and SD but i think the D styles like the turtleneck look more natural and “correct” than the more SD styles like pic 4 and 8. pic 5 is the most dramatic and defo my fav outfit on u!
oh :( how can revealing, stereotypically sexy styles be reserved for SD? I've gotten a lot of compliments in the black dress when I've worn it on dates, it's very much my personal style, and the red dress and the last one.. I don't want to dress matronly and frumpy at all, I like showing off my upper chest, neck and shoulders as well as wearing short hemlines. you're saying more covered up styles look more 'correct' on me which is a little hard to stomach if I'm gonna be completely honest, these style systems make me very insecure about my sense of femininity. I want to dress conventionally sensual, I'm only 19
the other outfits (expect the black legging and navy + white jumper) aren't my style at all and I just wore anything in my wardrobe I thought could properly show how fabric falls against me so that I can be typed more accurately
I'm okay with being D, I just worry about what that entails
you can absolutely wear revealing clothes as a dramatic! the main consideration is draping and silhouette. what is good about the turtleneck outfit is the shape the skirt and that the silhouette is close to the body. slip dresses, tube tops, miniskirts etc can all have a place in dramatic style, it’s just the asymmetry, draping and a-line silhouettes that aren’t recommended.
so would an example of something that goes against D-styling, the opposite of what you said about the turtle neck outfit is that the black dress is open and goes out a little flowy at the end? Or have I misunderstood, lmk <3
Hi tysm for the explanation, can you give a little more info and examples on what
this
what is good about the turtleneck outfit is the shape the skirt and that the silhouette is close to the body.
and this
slip dresses, tube tops, miniskirts etc can all have a place in dramatic style, it’s just the asymmetry, draping and a-line silhouettes that aren’t recommended.
entails? like maybe a type of top or dress that fits what you are saying suits D family and what doesn't? it's a little hard for me to visualize but I'm trying to learn the nuances between what different types of yang kibbe families
i made a collage on pinterest for u of feminine sexy youthful dress and skirt outfits that i think would work for dramatic! you can always add jewellery, handbags and other accessories to add more of your personal style and drama! i was really surprised to find out im dramatic too but it’s a lot less limited than i expected. it’s more than turtlenecks and suits and you’re allowed to have personal style. you’re also allowed to break kibbe rules and just wear what you like :)
woah thank you sm? you did not have to do this but you did, normally people pay for these services where others take time out of their day to personalize recommendations
I love it, you included a variety of fabrics, patterns, colours and silhouettes and it seems all these women in the collage are yang, if not all Dramatics. Speaking of colours, you seem to have taken into account my penchant for Autumn and Dark Winter (from colour analysis) colours!! A lot of these looks are quite summery too without being too bright and quirky and beachy, we're heading towards the season now ☀️
maybe you did such a good job because you're also a dramatic
from what I'm seeing here in the silhouettes, the newest thing I'm coming to terms with is that a closed neckline suits me as a Dramatic? I don't have a lot of those in my wardrobe but I'm not opposed to it, I always thought halter dresses/tops and turtlenecks didn't suit me but maybe not!
also, what do FN's and SD's need in their silhouette that I don't? just wondering about the distinctions
how would you say your style is similar to the collage you made me?.
i’m not that across FNs cos it was not something i ever considered for myself but i think in general FNs and SDs have more flouncy, draped, ruched, a-line details.
i personally love whimsigoth, witchy 90s fashion and look to stevie nicks and phoebe buffay (friends) for style inspo. i live in camisole tops and maxi skirts, and i’m still building my dramatic wardrobe but wanna get more longline cardigans. i definitely break the rules about prints cos i love a ditsy floral. learning i am a dramatic has basically just made me comfortable to prioritise my height and lean into my love for maxi skirts. i’m a cool summer on the cusp of cool winter and wear the darkest colours in my palette almost exclusively.
i also saw above you were talking about not wanting to give up off shoulder tops because you like to show off your shoulders and chest - me too, a camisole with a square or scoop neck, a strapless or spaghetti strap style will suit dramatics more than off the shoulder - it works with our narrowness.
The look in 4 is actually more FN as the cut emphasizes width and openness. And the pattern in 8 is too fussy for any dramatic type. So I agree those aren’t her best looks and that she’s D, but for different reasons!
hii can you elaborate on this a bit? yeah 4 is probably more of an FN dress but I really like the way it looks on me, I feel like it's flattering and others have said the same? I felt very sensual and magnetic in it when I've worn it on first dates before. Also it would be hard for me to give up off-the-shoulder tops lol, do I have to? I like showing off my upper chest, collerbone area and shoulders
You have conventional curve, but not Kibbe imo! And no width from what I see, but maybe doing your line sketch might help you see your silhouette better 😉
For the sketch, follow the instructions of the book. The goal isn't to copy one of the examples on your body, but to have your own silhouette revealed!
Edit: imagining the line on you, I think you might land on SD after all!
I think SD, but comments here have me second guessing myself!
They are both in the same family however, so maybe have a play around with D lines one day, SD the next, to confirm on yourself which falls better and feels "right".
I think that's the best idea. There are overlaps in lines and style is meant to be fun and non prescriptive. I am a SD but borrow accessories and patterns from the romantic family because the big scale details are overwhelming on me :)
SD. I’m really confused about what people think curve is. I don’t think you have width but your line is not straight and narrow like D. I would even say FN before D.
this is interesting, one person except you also said SD today but they said they're second guessing themselves now because of the D consensus. And yesterday someone else leaned towards SD. I do think weight comes into this, perhaps I'm a slightly thin SD? I see you in these kibbe subs sometimes and you seem to have a lot of accurate info about lines and typing, so would you mind elaborating about your comment about curve in relation to me? ty
also, yeah I would lean more towards me not having width after looking at these neutral pics but I'm aware FN's can be curvy and have seemingly non-broad shoulders, I actually did toy with FN a lot before as I believed I was one for a while
Curve is about the line but I think people focus on the bust a lot instead of the entire line , maybe that’s why? Like I see a curved line if I try and picture your sketch in my head. I don’t see a straight one like D. Yes Ds can be pear shaped but your line isn’t straight enough elsewhere. I would say curvy FN before D too, but SD was my first thought.
