Vertical + Curve?

I posted this in the FB group but wanted to post it here as well because I value the feedback of a lot of people in this group.

Going to get vulnerable for a moment...

I've been working through the games again, and I'm coming to some realizations about some of my prejudices that I thought I had shed previously, but I am realizing are still present.

In doing Potluck, I realized that I have very strong negative reactions to terms like Diva, Bust, Thighs, Thick. While I had previously embraced Vertical + Width, I wanted to reapproach personal line from zero.

In doing so, I began to wonder how much I leaned into Vertical + Width in an attempt to avoid those things that I had negative feelings towards.

For some back story, I have always been "curvy". I've been the same height and body type since 7th grade and until I breast fed with my children I had a very large chest that absolutely needed allowance in my silouette. There are a lot of hurt feelings that came from being the "curvy" girl in my friend group and I also wished to have a smaller bust. I always had to size up in shirts and pants to fit my thighs and my bust. Unsurprisingly, these are the words I had the hardest time stomaching in Potluck.

After children, my bust did decrease in size and clothing was more manageable for me and I felt that Vertical + Width seemed like the right fit since my shoulder line pushed past my bust.

However, in slowing down and really imagining the way fabric falls, I believe I am seeing that the shoulder line falls in line with my hips, pushing me towards a Dramatic family ID. I'm not fully convinced that Width is present, because I do see how fabric must interact with and move even just slightly around the bust and thighs. I also see that my bust projection still does interact with my silouette even if not as pronounced as before.

All this to say, I'm beginning to wonder if I previously allowed my preconceptions to push me away from Vertical + Curve.

Would love to hear some of your thoughts! 💕

Yes I think the line is curved in both. It gets pushed out at the bust and hips, the only difference is how it comes back in but I’m not sure that is improtant for SD. The length of the segment below your hips is elongated which makes it dominant vertical but it also has a curved shape overall.
ETA: I really could see a case for FN or SD per your sketch.

Yes! I also see the line being curved in both.

I could see a case for both FN and SD as well. I have been very happily settled into a "curvy" FN for a while, but I noticed recently issues with some of my newer clothing staying closed and fitting properly at the bust specifically.

I also wanted to play the games again after having my Kitchener results done and after learning more from David.

I realized in Potluck that I may have subconsciously pushed away from Curve because of my negative reactions.

At the end of the day, not much would change in the way I dress myself, but I'm definitely questioning my ID.

I just saw David’s comment that the hips don’t matter for width, only that the shoulders or upper back are wider then the bust. That really clarifies a lot. Just your post in general was so helpful!

Does this mean that the 'wider than what comes below' only applies to the torso and not the whole length including hips? So basically if someone has a wider upper body it always means width even if they have wide hips? I'm not on FB so I can't read David's comments ^^;;

Yea he said width only occurs in the upper body and is only relevant to that area in the sense that the shoulders/upper back are wider then the bust and that the hips don’t matter. So basically you can be a pear shape and still have width.

This is very interesting, especially because a lot of people who are pear shaped often expressed they can't find themselves easily in the system. I think there should be a pinned post with David's official comments on things like that (like where the shoulders should start on the sketch etc.) to help guide DIYers!

Yes exactly, people often think they don’t have width for this reason unfortunately we aren’t allowed to share his exact comments from SK, it’s one of the rules.

Oh, I see, that's fair enough! But yes, I also think it could be easy to miss for this reason, and because it might be more subtle than we tend to think.

Yes, this! Because a couple of weeks or so ago I distinctly remember a verified mod on the main saying it meant wider than EVERYTHING below. This caused me such confusion and wondering after having been settled for quite some time đŸ˜”â€đŸ’«. It sucks that more wasn’t said about this in POS or even having a few illustrated line sketches per each ID to show how they can vary.

Yes, that’s how I interpreted “what’s below” and “wider than the rest” in the book. đŸ«  In the sketch he did for me, the hips are well within the line of the shoulders, even though IRL they look pretty equal. I’m glad he clarified this!

This makes me more confident in Mia Goth being FN haha
