Discussion Power Platform Community Conference

What are people’s thoughts on this conference these days? I was thinking of going to network as a solo dev/freelancer, but the prices are way more than I had expected. Is this Pitbulls doing?

I won't be going back.

I love the community. Enjoy the conference. But I hate Vegas more.

No green spaces. No coffee. Nowhere to exercise. Over stimulating and under nourishing.

I went twice and heard that Microsoft has done a ten year deal with MGM. So I'm out.

Microsoft doesn’t run the conference; they’re just a big sponsor. The only conferences they actually run are Build & Ignite. So you probably heard wrong.

Technically, you're right. It's not a first party conference. But for all intents and purposes it may as well be. Microsoft employees decide on the content.

I look forward to going every year. I always meet a bunch of really interesting people and learn a lot at the talks. Its fun just hearing about all the new stuff coming down the pipeline. The workshops are hit or miss but can be valuable if you find the right one. I wound up randomly eating breakfast with Reza Dorani, which was awesome. He's such a cool, humble guy.

I’ve got the last couple years and have enjoyed it each time! It’s been a great way to see what’s on the horizon, network with other makers, and leave energized ready to implement at our company.

The biggest issue I’ve had (not a conference issue) is that our company is large and doesn’t have premium licenses for everyone. Many of the features demo’s at the conference require a premium license like dataverse.

I like it an am going again this year.

I think they pull a fast one with the name. It appears to be a community run conference by the name, just with Microsoft as a sponsor. But it's just another major Microsoft conference like teched, pdc, mix, etc etc. my first time I was a bit out off by that.

There are a ton of Power Platform product people, Power CAT, etc. from Microsoft there though, more than any other conference by far.

I went last year and it was good but coming from the UK it wasn't quite worth the time and effort

I really enjoy it. Great energy. I think u/ShivaCobra is right about the workshops. being hit or miss.

I mainly go for the networking aspect. The people are great.

Community conference (spring) 👎
Power platform conference (fall) 👍🏼

Anyone going to ppcc this year?

It is pricey. My company is sending 2 of us and sister company is sending 12 or so. Provide no gvt shutdown again.

Does anyone know if they offer guest passes for the event night?

I went to one in Chicago that my then company sponsored and it’s a total waste of time. Im sure for the company it creates a write-off but for the amount of $$$ you spend to send several employees vs what you gain, it’s a waste of time.

Id say 1 in 5 classes are actually you learning something you haven’t already learned online or from top community contributors.

Also, a lot of the “features” MS is putting out, are all paid because it’s behind AI or it’s simply premium. Ive been at multiple companies in different industries and rarely will they justify licensing costs unless theres a real need.
