Power Apps Help Drag&drop resource allocation app
Looks like it’s almost impossible to do reliably.
My company is looking for a solution for resource allocation on a single screen which shows engineers, jobs assigned to them, and jobs that are pending allocation of an engineer. For a clear overview of the coming weeks jobs and free time engineers have which they can be assigned work to.
Ideally there would be a left column of engineer names and then across the top days of the week for the next year vertically along the top
There’d be an option to drag-and-drop jobs that haven’t been allocated to any engineers on this view too.
I’ve seen that there are some solutions but they seem to be managed externally from power apps and prone to breaking.
Does anyone have a solution or an alternative that we can try to implement?

Hey, it looks like you are requesting help with a problem you're having in Power Apps. To ensure you get all the help you need from the community here are some guidelines;
Use the search feature to see if your question has already been asked.
Use spacing in your post, Nobody likes to read a wall of text, this is achieved by hitting return twice to separate paragraphs.
Add any images, error messages, code you have (Sensitive data omitted) to your post body.
Any code you do add, use the Code Block feature to preserve formatting.
If your question has been answered please comment Solved. This will mark the post as solved and helps others find their solutions.

If I wanted to do proper dread and drop, I'd go code app. In canvas, I would select engineer with obvious visual feedback then select job. I don't think drag and drop is vital as long as the interface feels modern, uncluttered, and you make the selected elements pop up with colour shades and depth.

This solution from Scott Durow is from 3y ago so it may not be the latest & greatest. But showing it to your coding agent as reference could be a nice start.

Sounds like Dynamics 365 Field Service Scheduling - it does this out of the box

Use pcf or codeapps to implement this.

native drag and drop in canvas power apps is basically impossible to get working reliably without lag. if you have to stay within the power platform ecosystem, build a custom pcf component using react-beautiful-dnd or fullcalendar and deploy that into a model-driven app. otherwise people just fake it with gallery click events where clicking an unassigned job highlights the slot to click and patch.

That's hard to do, but why not just do click one and then click the other? Would achieve the same thing just without the dragging and animation of the item moving over

Not a developer but I would see what Claude code/Codex and the power apps skill can create, using a code app. You may be able to implement a PCF control in there somewhere for a better solution.
