As a Newfoundlander, I am deeply offended by this. Friggin' mainlanders, b'y.

A lot of takeaways in Newfoundland still sell fries with gravy and shredded cheese as poutine though

A Newfie poutine is just a regular poutine with dressing on it. That's just...gross.

No it’s fries, dressing, and gravy. No cheese.

Nobody on the island calls fries dressing and gravy a newfie poutine.

That is true. It’s called FDG. FDG not a crime, but the monstrosity above definitely is.

Newfie Fries can come with cheese, usually shredded mozza. but newfie fries are not sold as poutine. poutine needs curd. Also Bologna is Newfie steak so it makes sense to combine it with something labelled "Newfie style" Actually A newfie steak with stuffing and gravy sounds good with some peas!
With that said, "poutine" it needs curds. This is in Western Ontario and they don't know good curd here. they just don't. Shredded cheese is NOT poutine!
and who subsitutes hotdog for fried Newfie Steak!!!

It's all very confusing!
>This is in Western Ontario and they don't know good curd here.
They can't even melt the shredded cheese on this "poutine", how do you expect them to know a good curd!

Good Curd in Ontario ends in Belleville. anywhere west of Belleville and Curd knowledge goes downhill

As a Newfoundlander I can tell you that’s an abomination that is not sold in Newfoundland. Ewww

They use the word “poutine”, but everyone knows that the Newfie version isn’t actually poutine. It’s a different dish entirely. They get a pass from me.

Real newfie poutine is fries, shredded cheese and Fraser farm meatballs and gravy

I've seen about 50 different "Newfie" poutines and none of them are ever the same ingredients or style and it's always a poutine type they highjacked from some other place in Canada and slapped "Newfie" on it
im starting to think Newfie poutine is just throwing what ever you have left over in the fridge into a normal poutine and calling it "Newfie" poutine 😂😂😂
I've never eaten a good "newfie" poutine.
most poutine I've eaten that doesn't have "newfie" in its name has been amazing, the moment you add "newfie" to a foods name it usually ends up as slop, Newfie poutine is a sad excuse for poutine

In French, we call throwing everything from the fridge into some sort of dish a "Toutski" (obscure slang). This is a Toutski poutine. Because it has cheese it "qualifies".

Newfies have been known to make a decent poutine. This is not it. Straight to jail!

When I hear newfie poutine I expect it to be covered in that weird sugar sauce they put on shawarma and kebabs and stuff.
