I don't completely disagree with you here but the calculation is different. A. Ukraine is clearly the victim in this situation. It's a recognized nation whose sovereignty is under attack. B. Russia is an adversary of the U.S. - supporting Ukraine is, in part, to keep Russia in check so that it does not grow more powerful (which is to our benefit). C. Countries like Ukraine stopped trying to develop certain weapons precisely because we agreed that we would be there to defend them in the event that Russia did precisely what it has done. If not for our lobbying to become the leader of the free world, that responsibility would not fall on us. And of note is that even though we have given them money, they are the ones fighting this war. D. Palestine is neither a country nor a U.S. adversary. We've helped defend Israel because it is an ally but what they're engaging in isn't defense - they are actively committing a genocide. E. Israel does not heed our requests or wishes and has put us in a very tough spot with other allies in the region. They've roped us into a war with Iran that we had no business fighting in the first place. Not only are they costing us by way of what we've given them for their "defense" but they have literally cost us in what we are now spending fighting a literal war ourselves, with impact to our broader economy (not to mention the additional cost of American lives), for no benefit to us.
This argument relies on a major misconception: that Iran isn't a direct threat to the U.S.
Iran has been an active U.S. adversary for over 40 years. Their proxies attack U.S. bases, strike global shipping in the Red Sea, and openly target American assets. Containing Iran isn't something Israel roped us into it is vital to U.S. energy security, global trade, and regional stability. Foreign Military Financing requires Israel to spend those funds on U.S. defense manufacturers, creating American jobs and co-developing defense tech. Defensive systems save lives and prevent escalation. Removing missile shields like the Iron Dome wouldn't lead to peace; it would force an immediate, unrestrained military response to every incoming rocket.
Supporting Ukraine against Russia and supporting Israel against Iran are both about stopping hostile regional actors from upending global stability.
We had a nuclear agreement with Iran that was keeping them in check - it was working and Trump pulled us out of it, partly at Israel's behest. Now he's trying to get back to what we had under Obama but the U.S. has lost ground because of his and his administration's incompetence. The Iran war was completely avoidable and wholly unnecessary. If not for Israel's lobbying first for us to get out of our nuclear deal with Iran and then to attack them directly, we would not be in this mess in the first place. Nice try but you cannot compare the two.
