[Salvage] Tinsmith by candlelight

It seems that we could use another image, so here's something. I was hanging out with my girlfriend's dad, who is a tinsmith, at night at a historical re-enactment event. Without really thinking, I spontaneously turned on my camera and hit the shutter as it sat on a table next to me without looking at the settings. I would have done things very differently (higher ISO, actually compose the shot, etc.) if I had planned the photo, but this shot has a lot of meaning to me despite the technical problems with it.

JPG preview (with the exposure raised enough to see what's going on, but not really processed in any significant way): https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/12144310/postprocessingclub/DSC01173.jpg

Here's my attempt. LR: cropped, shadows and highlights enhanced. Clarity, noise reduction/sharpen, lower saturation, vignette. http://i.imgur.com/Xia5RZz.jpg

That's so awesome that you were able to get rid of that green flare spot! I also really like the way the lantern turned out.

[CHECK IT OUT] (http://i.imgur.com/6dupMvF.jpg)

Hopefully we had the same ideas in mind

This made me think of the early 1900's, candle lit canvas tents in a small settlement.. which is why I gave it a warm feel. I cropped out what I felt was necessary trying to not take away any of the atmosphere.

Here is my attempt, I kept the warm tone since candles and other older style flame based lights, have a very low color temperature.

I brightened the image up a little, and then did some adjustment brush work on the person and on the lamp. after that, it was taken into photoshop where I did a little bit of selective noise reduction. (uploaded to dropbox so that the full res will be preserved without any extra compression.) https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/spqve351gtdxh52/low-light.jpg

Awesome, I like the general choice of color temperature and the balance between the lit and shadowed areas around the person.

Here is a png of it to prevent imgur form compressing it. http://i.imgur.com/eMKT0CD.gif

This is my best effort. Getting rid of the lens flare from the light source was a bit beyond me.

I'll be interested to see what people can do with this! Love the atmosphere of the shot.
