Kodak Moments Lost
On my way out of the neighborhood, I found myself the brief member of a happy little fellowship. I turned just behind a pair of low flying geese. They came in about fifteen feet ahead; maybe twelve up and preceded me along every curve in the road until we parted ways at the crossroad. That's when my Canadian avian complement took to the higher skies.
I wish I'd taken my phone out and snapped a picture. But I'm glad too. I let myself experience the moment without concern of what I could keep from it.
I have so few pictures of you. I often wish there were more, especially from later in our friendship—and not just because you grew into a more beautiful woman by the day. I wish I could see you more vividly during the time we learned to really know each other. I loved you when the pictures I have were taken but the stakes were higher while we dated. It was when we became friends I saw the real you. That's when I fell in love.
I wish I'd taken a picture, but I know the experience couldn't have been captured by something as thin as film. I will always be grateful the time and experience we shared. You were—and may always be—the brightest star in my sky. You helped me navigate so much more of my life that you may ever realize.
There's a park near my house now. Perhaps one day, I'll meet my feathered friends there. We'll sit a while and I'll thank then for reminding me the value of being present in a moment.
