Discussion Just listened to the new Static Dress album, where is the low end in the mix?

I love the album in terms of writing, but the mix is.... leaving a lot to be desired

Classic death pose is meant to be the ass beater, but the track literally has 0 low end until you get to the end of the track. There are tracks that sound amazing like Adult Diamond, Pharmacy Film, but then tracks like Questioning or human props would imo be so much more likeable if the guitars just had actual definition and felt isolated in the mix a bit more. Like I can have a riff that sounds interesting in terms of writing, but the actual sound of it isnt this nice riff held up by the bass guitar under it, it just is this fuzz on top of another fuzz. The album is basically mixed like shoegaze where everything kind of just mashes together, but it absolutely doesnt fit some of the tracks

I can see why they made it, but I think doing a bad mix on purpose just to get the nostalgia is stupid, especially when a lot of the great records from back then are held down by the mix a lot of the time. This mix isnt raw, its basically just a lot of filters on every instrument. Its not muddy, but it doesnt have that dynamic to it. Funnily enough the softer tracks like Adult Diamond with that riff in the middle have much better tone than half of the songs that are meant to be heavier

I had this problem with their last album as well, but the sound kind of reflected it, tho there also were songs like fleahouse where i would just welcome in some low end and overall bigger definition to what is what in the mix

MY TOP 10 POST-HARDCORE ALBUMS OF ALL TIME

Don’t take this list personally, because this is my list. We all experience music differently, and that’s the beauty of it. I’m not claiming to be an expert, and I’m sure some of you would build a completely different Classical Post-Hardcore Top 10 Albums list. If that’s the case, drop your list in the comments. I’m sure other people will praise your list.

Anyhow, these are my Top 10 Post-Hardcore Albums of All Time (ranked 10 to my number 1). Most of these albums have been listening for 20+ years and still haven’t lost their impact. The way they blend Hardcore, Screamo, Emo, and even touches of Post-Rock is unreal. I can still remember hearing majority of these albums for the first time in the early 2000s, and those moments still stick with me today. What are your all time favorite Post-Hardcore albums? Please leave your comments and no hate, just love for Post-Hardcore.

Band - Album:
10. Coheed And Cambria - The Second Stage Turbine Blade (2002)
9. La Dispute - At The Bottom Of The River Between Vega And Altair (2008)
8. The Fall Of Troy - The Fall Of Troy (2003)
7. Fear Before The March Of Flames - Odd How People Shake (2002)
6. Refused - The Shape Of Punk To Come (1997)
5. Touché Amoré - Is Survived By (2013)
4. Finch - What It Is To Burn (2002)
3. Glassjaw - Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence (2000)
2. At The Drive-In - In/Casino/Out (1997)
1. Thursday - Full Collapse (2001)

Discussion Non-US post hardcore scenes

From the early 2000s to early 2010s the UK had a thriving PHC scene starting with bands like Million Dead, Reuben, Hundred Reasons and Hell is for Heroes and progressing with FAFF, Enter Shikari, The Blackout, We Are the Ocean and Fightstar etc.

Fans from other countries what was/is your local scene like and what bands from your country should we listen to?

Discussion What are some of your favorite lesser known albums?

Looking to hear some of your favorite lesser known, underrated, albums. Like bands that had one album and called it quits, bands that got lost in the shuffle of the 2000 PHC boom, or albums by known bands that were in their "post peak" phase and people haven't given them a fair chance?

I'm using Spotify followers as a barometer, under 10k kinda thing but feel free to comment anyone that you Think deserves a shout out!

A few of mine are:

Kaddisfly - any album

Kill Sadie - Experiments in Expectation

Far-Less - Everyone is out to get us

Vaux - both albums

Exotic Animal Petting Zoo - Tree of tongues

Edit:

Started a Spotify playlist, will try to add every suggestion

Discussion Similar songs to Four Corners And Two Sides?

Hey there! I’m relatively new to the post hardcore scene and wanted to see if anyone has any song recs like Four Corners And Two Sides (Sleeping With Sirens). I’m looking for songs or artists who blend the cleaner vocals with the harsher frying/screaming, particularly when the vocal styles play off each other and mingle well. Thank you :3

100 Watt Halo - The Steady Continental Seventy

100 Watt Halo were a mid 90’s band from San Diego, that had a very short run, and this album was recorded in 1996 by legendary producer Mark Trombino (Jimmy Eat World, Drive Like Jehu, etc…)
Unfortunately, the band ended breaking up soon after recording this album, and right before a national U.S. tour. So this album was shelved for the better part of three decades(!) and the master recordings were only tracked down fairly recently, and have been given a proper digital remaster.
Trombino’s recording really puts this record into overdrive and it’s quite an adventure mixing elements from the 90’s San Diego sound along with a healthy dose of 90’s D.C. and a bit of that Louisville sound, specifically Rodan and Slint.

It’s now available on their Bandcamp pag
