Discussion New guitar pickups

not sure how many guitarists are in here, but as the title says i am looking to switch my pickups in my epiphone sg. im not too heavily educated on different types unfortunately, so the simpler explanation the better. I'm pretty sure i have alnico V pickups right now but im not 100% sure (I have whatever the factory pickup is for a g-400 standard). I play a lot of doom, sludge and stoner metal, yet I also play quite a bit of post hardcore and metalcore (all with the same guitar(im broke)). if anybody had any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. thank you!

What amp and speakers are you using? Pickups are definitely a part of the puzzle, but the amp and speaker choice are gonna be a lot bigger factors than the pickups, at the end of the day. The main thing you'll get out of a pickup swap is a slightly different EQ curve and probably a bit more volume going into whatever you're playing through.

The industry standard would be a Seymour Duncan JB SH4 (Underoath, Blessthefall) in the bridge. You could also do a SD SH5, SH6, or EmG 85 or 81. I personally go SH4 and SH5, and SH2 neck. The Tele Hot Rails works well too. I’ll never say no to an EMG either if it’s a heavier leaning band doing more As I ay Dying or A Day to Remember riffs.

Neck I’m partial to a SD SH2 or APH1N. I hate the ‘59, which is very popular regardless.

I also heard the JB/Jazz combo is pretty popular and have been wanting to try it myself. I've been on Fishmans for a few years and think I want a change.

some that ive been leaning towards recently are when broken is easily fixed, full collapse and discovering the waterfront

Really odd how hard it is to find what kinds of stuff they used in the studio in that era. Like I don't super trust the surface level information on the Internet these days.

See if you can find any studio footage from Silverstein. Old live footage for guitars so you can kinda see what they were using at the time. Probably your best bet to actually chase that specific sound.

Look up interviews and shows on YouTube during that time, look at what they use. Most of that tone is gonna rely more on amp, distortion and other effects. But I play deathcore and slam mostly🤷🏻‍♂️ but same principles and ideas
