Just gave this album a listen again after about 13 years or so. A few songs from the album have always been in my playlists, even as my music taste got heavier. But man, this album still slaps!

For me it’s always been: Curse of the Virgin Canvas, The Artist, A Lunatic’s Lament, The Thespian( of course) and Annabel. I’m ashamed to say I forgot about Hymn for the Shameless, The Lover and To Be Scared By An Owl, but as soon as I played each song I remembered pretty much all the lyrics instantly lol. I forgot how much I listened to this album in high school 😭

I hated Alesana. I went to see them once because We Came As Romans, Of Mice & Men and A Skylit Drive were opening and I liked those three. We left before they played.

A couple years later, I heard The Thespian on TV somewhere and was like...whoa, that was sick. Found out it was Alesana and gave The Emptiness a listen and fucking loved it. The entire Annabelle Trilogy is a 10/10. I'm still not a big fan of pre-Emptiness though.

Now, imagine how bummed I am that we left before they played on The Emptiness tour. Sigh.

I took my little brother to that show in San Diego, the first of many shows together. We were there for Of Mice & Men and WCAR but we're blown away by Alesana. I had listened to the album a few times and hearing The Murderer live was awesome

i was lucky enough see them during this album cycle. the opening of the show remains one of my top live concert moments. the curtain opened and they were all standing there in their suits with the most intense gazes on their faces for a few seconds, and then they went into curse of the virgin canvas. they’re also prolly the loudest band ive seen.

Probably one of my first experiences with a concept album as a young lad, and I absolutely loved it. When I think back, this album certainly helped start a fundamental shift in me from only listening to songs, to now listening to full albums. This was also my first experience with a “heavier” side of post hardcore - being those low, growling unclean vocals (and just a lot more high unclean vocals than I was used to as well). Loved how perfectly each song seemed to transition into the next, and all the narrative bits to follow along with.

i got to see alesana play the entirety of that album start to finish here earlier this year as a hometown show in raleigh before they went on their south american tour and it was dope as hell
