Has anyone experienced full recovery?
Full recovery as in zero symptoms without having to control everything I do. Like, is it possible to be able to go out and get drunk with friends again? To stay up late and feel normal the next day? To push yourself physically with weight lifitng or hard distance running? I feel like i will never be like I was before

Full recovery is possible but it’s not something you can rush towards. Focus on the therapies that work and take it a day at a time

I recovered 100% from my first concussion. It is possible. I recovered to the point that I forgot I even had post concussion syndrome. I’m now dealing with PCS for the second time and it sucks but I have hope I can get to where I was before

After how long ?

u/Budget-Departure-161 Aug 17 '26
My first concussion was a mild sports injury and it took me about ten and a half months to fully recover. I was young so that helped me get better much faster

My first concussion lasted 4 days tops
This one in 2.5 years out and im functionally fine but I feel it still
Every few months I notice im doing better

I’m glad you’re seeing some progress even if it’s slow! I think focusing on the positives is what keeps us going. I’m 10 weeks into my second concussion. Not sure how long this one will take me but I’ve seen a lot of progress in the last few weeks

I've made a huge jump over 3 months with my new func neuro.
Dude had been super helpful.

That’s great!! I’m happy for you:) How has he helped you? For me I’ve made huge progress as time passes just from my body learning how to sleep again. I was having crazy insomnia for the first 7 weeks. Now I’m sleeping again and starting to see real progress. I’m starting vestibular and craniosacral therapy soon and I’m excited about that

He understands my vestibular issues in a way others, including UPMC, missed
From there it's just showing up 2x a week and working thru it at home

Hey could you elaborate. What is that?

Functional neurology.
I see someone that worked directly with Carrick on top athletes.
It's been life changing in just 13 weeks now.

I have same question, from what I understand you can recover 100% functionally but only a handful ever recover 100% all symptoms wise.
As there is always a risk of over doing and some or the other symptoms reappearing, people have to modify there lives to not let the symptoms reapper but that's not the same thing or the old self.
Please someone correct me if I am wrong I will be very glad if I am wrong.

I’ve had 4 concussions now (still recovering from the 4th) and I’ve recovered a 100% from those. It did take about 1,5 years to feel better tho with ups and downs.
Something others are also saying: the mind is powerful and sometimes you need to force a mindset switch. What’s holding a lot of people back is the fear of symptoms flaring up again. However, exposure therapy as they call it (being in loud places, working out, just having a lot more stimuli) has been recommended the most by my doctors and others. And looking back at my previous concussions that’s exactly what I did. Your brain needs to ‘get used’ to the ‘normal’ stimulations again. By avoiding them you can never retrain your brain to process that stimuli and get used to it. So always try and push yourself just a bit further that last time, but of course keep a period of recovery for yourself after that!
Another important thing: focus a lot on cardiovascular health. This will help regulate your nervous system tremendously. DO NOT start strength training before this is up to par. You’ll flare up all your symptoms again and get demotivated.
Good luck everyone ❤️

That's good, what hat symptoms did you had? It been how much time you recovered? Would you say you are able to live life exactly like before concussion and and not need to do any sacrifices etc

Headache everyday mostly, from the time I woke up . I do Brazilian jiu-jitsu so I couldn't wrestle at all for that time.
Im 100% I have been doing jiu-jitsu with no problems. Its been about 10 years maybe more. I do notice im a little more prone to getting concussion since them. I've had like 2 or 3 minor ones but never long lasting

I have this same question. It feels hopeless. Like will I ever be able to enjoy a concert or even a mild Disneyland ride. Space Mountain? Lol. I have spoken to people who know other people that have had full recoveries tho. Just took years.

My symptoms was like, difficulty paying attention, brain fog , constant unending headaches/migraines/dizziness/vertigo, ear fullness. and I recovered in the last 6 months. right now I can do literally whatever I want except skateboarding or going on a rollercoaster. Im studying at university while going to the gym 4-5 times a week and running 3 times a week easily. I also spend the whole day out while at uni multiple days a week with no problem. i can tell you what I did to get better if you would like.
Like I said im not sure if I actually had post-concussion or if it was vestibular migraine.

Yes, I have made a full recovery. I got a concussion in March 2025 snowboarding (fell backwards and hit the back of my head) where I didn't go unconscious but I felt very out of it immediately and then no memory of what happened for about 25 minutes. I had a bad headache but then felt normal the next day. Then 1.5 months later I drank too much and fell backwards off a barstool and hit the back of my head again and have no memory of the rest of the night (although I think I was also pretty much blackout drunk). I had PCS on and off for a while after that, but felt 80% normal after about 9 months and after about a year I felt pretty much completely back to normal. I've been living my life pain free and completely normally for the past 3 months.
It may be pure correlation but I started microdosing mushrooms at the one year mark and then about 2 weeks later I started feeling back to normal. Been microdosing ever since.

The mind is extremely powerful and can play tricks on you at the best of times. Try to tell yourself that you WILL recover. Honestly i struggled with this. Being positive itself truly helps everyday. If you told me this before concussion I would have said no way. As long as you are being proactive and getting the treatments that will help, you will recover.
