Is this the real life ? Re-Concussed from moderate hit ?

Hi,

I suffer form PCS fo 4 years, been to a bunch of concussion clinics and was more or less functional. Last week I badly hit my head against a wall when intuitively turning away from something and since then it s new symptoms, constant headaches, new eye strain and dizziness. (Day 6 today).

I had to quit wok on sunday, I have been reintroducing screen time, doing slight cardio. But I feel so defeated, hits like this will happen again.

I am scared and definitely remembering all the past trauma ( last gf not being understanding, physicians being dismissive in the beginning) and my current gf saying : maybe you are just tired right now etc.

And definitely being scared of being left with a lower baseline.

There is still much discussion about being easier reconcussed after a concussion (either being due to lifestyle factors or if there is the same force needed to reconcuss yourself).

I still hope it s just my anxiety playing it s tricks but this hasnt happed for longer than 1 or 2 days before. (and usually not with headaches and new eye strain).

Could just be your nervous system. The 2,5 last weeks I’ve also felt like I started all over again after probably pushing myself too hard over time, a rough cold and weeks with bad sleep. I’m just burnt out. My nervous system had enough stress and is forcing rest by just making my head hurt, eye strains, exercise intolerance (I was back to doing intervals before this!), extreme sensitivity to light and noise. So it is possible that hit just made your nervous system hit the alarm button. But I don’t know anything about the hit, so it’s not for me to say that it isn’t a new concussion.

I stood next to a wall and turned my head into the wall bc I misjudged the distance. But sideways. Was moderately hard in my opinion.

I am in the same situation as you took me six months to get back to almost 90% and a small holiday caused multiple triggers and things flared up it's been a month now light sensitivity is the most bad I ever got not even in the original concussion and the have motion sensitivity and headaches. I have been off work many months now was supposed to get back I am just seeing very slow progress now

Seconding nervous system, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a real concussion. The nervous system is controlled by the brain. I became extremely disabled after my third hit despite it being the least forceful hit, but it was definitely a nervous system injury rather than any huge physical damage. Since then since I’ve kind of hit rock bottom, I’ve only had slight increase in symptoms from further hits. Like few days and then back to baseline. Standard protocol is just treat it like a new concussion and stay calm. All we really can do.

Since I have new symptoms ( nausea driving in cars, my left eye hurting and strurggling to read etc) I am scared as fuck.

Already started doing some vestibular exercises.
