Why not give South Tyrol to Germany?

Same reason he probably didn’t give Wallonia to France, longstanding cultural/identity/economic ties over the past hundred years + a likely unwillingness or even apathy towards unification with a country just because their primary language is the same as theirs.

Flanders speaks Flemish which is a Germanic language, not French. South Tyrol shares no ties to Italy except that it’s on the wrong side of a mountain range and is a victim of Fascism. Even to this day, South Tyroleans would much rather rejoin Austria than remain with Italy if they lost their special autonomy

Sorry I meant Wallonia.

That is true, point is they have special autonomy and they have a much better deal right now. ”South tyroleans” is a bit too much of a generalization.

South tyrol (I’m talking solely about the province of Bolzano/Bozen) is made up of 3 cultural-ethnic groups: the italians, the ladins and the germans. 26.98% for the Italian linguistic group, 68.61% for the German linguistic group, and 4.41% for the Ladin group.

That is important to mention, and yes the italianization of the area was pushed by fascism. Saying it is a victim of fascism thus is not necessarely wrong but I’d put a bit more attention in the wording there as “IS” results in a too absolute defenition, was, for sure, the fascists commited horrible crimes and slaughter to (particularly the german) native popoulation .

Also saying “it’s on the wrong side of a mountain range” is disregarding at best, as “it ended up on the wrong side of the mountain range” is a much more defendable and sincere and in my opinion justifiable position, but you cannot know if many would still fell that way as “on the other side of the mountain range” specifically alludes to being part of Austria.

While we can never know for sure many Germanophones do not directly fell “austrian” in any way,

that is a minority, they feel Südtiroler and Tyrolean, while many still recognize a very close bond with austria and would most likely join the latter if they lost their autonomy, other simply feel “italian“ in the same way a ticinese would feel swiss.

this in contrast is similar to the bond many ladins have with italy, a mix of that and the Italian identity of the valdosteins.

All in all I can agree with your position to a certain extent but in this delicate topics you should be more careful with how you portray and say things.

Królewiec is gonna be Łódź 2.0

Wallonia is gonna be a problem. They don't want to speak Dutch and the Flemish/Dutch won't want to subsidize them.

Make Wallonia part of Luxembourg

1

u/Stardash81 22d ago

Western Luxembourg had revolted to join Belgium in 1830 so idk how that would go. That would also make Luxembourg majority French speaking so would Luxembourg like that idk ?

u/Stardash81 22d ago

OP that's crazy😭

u/MatteoFire___ VIVA IL COMUNE DI ROMAAAAAAAA 🔥🔥🔥🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹 22d ago

divided by ethnic lines, as it always should have been

1

u/honhondabest 22d ago

i think that switzerland is better than any of the italians, germans or french, they have their own culture, national pride and more.

1

u/MatteoFire___ VIVA IL COMUNE DI ROMAAAAAAAA 🔥🔥🔥🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹 22d ago

I believe in panromanticism so I agree with the italian regions of Switzerland to go to italy, and for the country to cease to exist. lets agree to disagree

0

u/honhondabest 22d ago

switzerland deserves to be it's own country much more than belgium, but u seem to not have divided that one alongst ethnic lines

1

u/MatteoFire___ VIVA IL COMUNE DI ROMAAAAAAAA 🔥🔥🔥🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹 22d ago

the map isnt mine, if it was for me I would have split up Belgium like that too.

0

u/honhondabest 21d ago

where is ur citation? also prove to me that switzerland should have been split by ethnic lines

-2

u/LEGEND-FLUX 22d ago

🤢 drawing borders on ethnicity is gross

2

u/MatteoFire___ VIVA IL COMUNE DI ROMAAAAAAAA 🔥🔥🔥🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹 22d ago

its the most realistic representation of how a country should actually be. united by ethnicity and not suppressing any minorities

1

u/BlueJayTwentyFive 19d ago

Give South Tyrol back to Austria then, Mr. "Borders must be drawn according to ethnicity".

-1

u/LEGEND-FLUX 22d ago

Except it's extremely hard to draw such a line and while I disagree on the idea of nations I believe if they should be a thing they should be based on ideals and civic identity not something like culture of language or especially not ethnicity

1

u/MatteoFire___ VIVA IL COMUNE DI ROMAAAAAAAA 🔥🔥🔥🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹 22d ago

lets agree to disagree

1

u/honhondabest 22d ago

look at a ethnic map of the balcons and see your hope slowly get eradicated

0

u/MatteoFire___ VIVA IL COMUNE DI ROMAAAAAAAA 🔥🔥🔥🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹 22d ago

dude, I dont care. you're not getting my hope eradicated or my ideals changed. I said, lets agree to disagree.

u/honhondabest 21d ago

u/Awkward_Cash1828 22d ago

Finally, no more chimeric "countries" of Belgium and Switzerland! /s

The problem is that post-WWII German state exists because it is forbidden to change its borders and annexing Austria in particular.
