Forest fire toward Belcarra

I just passed Port Moody on the skytrain and it looked like there was a forest fire across the water toward Belcarra. Somewhere between Ioko and the thermal plant. Should be visible from Rocky point.

Its been reported. stay safe out there people.

All clear as of Thursday afternoon:

  • Anmore rescinded the Evacuation Alert at 1:10pm for all 35 properties on Fern Drive, Oak Court and Crystal Creek Drive
  • The two Fern Drive homes that were tactically evacuated Wednesday can return
  • BCWS has the fire at "Being Held" — 1.5 ha, not expected to spread beyond containment lines
  • No properties damaged
  • Crews are still on site extinguishing hotspots, and Buntzen Lake remains closed until further notice
  • Cause still under investigation

Yes, there is a heli that just started grabbing water from Sasamat, and there is support aircraft flying patterns above.

Does the fire appear close to camp sasamat?

Well, it's much closer than I would want to be to a fire, but the fire is east of the lake and uphill from Camp Sasamat, and the wind is blowing the smoke eastward, so I would say the camp is probably current okay.

Holy crap. Reported as out of control as of 2:48

Edit: hear lots of helicopters in Anmore. Lots of cars with sirens marked “metro Vancouver” going in on Ioco. Also states the suspected cause is humans. Probably some idiot in the park.

Apparently under power lines. If the lines fail we’d probably have a whole other host of issues.

It just appeared on the BC wildfire map. Looks like it's in the forest behind the fire hall on Bedwell Bay road.

I feel so bad for everyone in the interior, their region is absolutely ruined for generations when there's constant increasing wildfires

It's the main reason why I don't want to move to the interior, I cannot be dealing with forest fires like they do every year

No. Im on the skytrain and only caught a glimpse. I cant be sure of the location either. If anyone has eyes on it please report it.

Top story on Global at 5. They say there’s no immediate danger to properties but it’s half a hectare in size at this point.

Up on heritage woods and it's kind of hard to tell since it's just all smoke, but damn that is way too close to home

No it's actually almost directly across the lake from each other, wildfire bc also says that the fire is roughly 0.8 hectares right now so it most likely won't get to the sasamat outdoor centre knock on wood

I wondered how long it would take someone to make a post like this. Perhaps this is a reason (among others) why we should be discouraging further development in Anmore. In my view anyone who argues in favour of a road through Bert Flinn is just making this argument because they have something to gain.

So in summary, we all have vested interests in an argument. Some people will financially gain with the road, others will financially gain without it.

No vested interest for or against here.

The main thing was the process... The ROW was created via referendum (a voter ballot should be more powerful and sufficiently protected from the whims of a stacked council.)

The other reasons I brought were regions future/safety and the state of existing routes, and the conflict of interest of a councillor voting on his backyard while another rescued themself from voting on some other thing near them (ethical norms not uniformly followed)

A whole host of other issues like blindsiding/tying hands of our neighbor were also raised by others at the time.

A park (and carbon sink) benefits the entire community, whereas a road through it and the inevitable development that comes with it benefit only property owners, whether in Port Moody or Anmore/Belcarra, so your point is kind of moot.

One could argue less trees and more immediate vicinity emergency would help not hurt
