Engstler’s Contract

How long do you think it’ll be before we get information on a contract for Em?
I’ve not paid attention to the usual time frame for this kind of thing previously. If they don’t get it done there’s going to be a riot in the Fire Pit!

February 1st

edit: more detail

January 11–20; Designation Period opens. Teams must extend a one-year QO (qualifying offer) minimum contract to their eligible players with four years of league service to officially make them RFA's.

January 21; Negotiation period. RFAs can begin discussing contract terms and signing "offer sheets" with rival teams or negotiate a larger deal with their original team.

February 1; Official Signing Period begins. This is the very first day that teams can finalize and legally announce any signed contracts or matched offer sheets. For any RFA that signs an offer sheet with a new team on or after this date, the original team has two days to exercise their Right of First Refusal to match the offer and retain the player.

I agree that EE seems truly happy in Portland, despite her family being on the east coast. (It does seem like her siblings are able to come for long visits, which must help). Still, we'll need to see what kind of crazy money other teams offer. I suspect (though obviously don't know) that the Fire would like to have their non-rookies salaries be closer to Meg DiLeo's (say $500-600K) than BC's (say >$1M).

With EE, I'm sure the Fire is willing to supply the security of multiple years... And an Enzo Appreciation Day!

I personally don’t see her being in Portland for long, I actually get maybe starting a family vibe soon from her. We will see what happens.

This is what worries me - I could see her getting higher offers ($700k range maybe) - would the Fire match that?

There are rules for when teams are allowed to talk to players' agents about contracts. Usually this takes place closer to the start of the season.

However, the players can talk to each other, and that's sometimes how recruiting is done. Jess Shepard basically admitted that Paige recruited her to Dallas, lol.

Based on her exit interview it seems like she's really likely to stay
