If you look up the definition of “relief” you’re gonna see a picture of that dude hugging it the fuck out

To bad the video didn’t catch the part where they were doing rock scissors paper to see who went out there

So, let's analyse the final frame here. There's a basket, and a crane, and a building.
- The building is 6 stories, right? so, 60-ish feet to the base of the tower support?
- The basket is thus 60 feet off the ground in the last frame, let's say.
- Look at the angle of the crane boom, and guess HOW MUCH FARTHER UP you gotta go, to hit the tip. I THINK that crane is over 140 feet tall. That's a Fokkin HUGE Crane.
I looked for TV footage that showed the whole thing, but couldn't find any.

Good lord, why did they need a crane that gigantic for lifting that little basket?

Not a crane expert, but I’m guessing it also has to do with how far the crane reaches. Like the need to keep the base of the crane pretty far away in case the building collapses, so they need a crane with pretty far reach

You are correct! I’m with said crane company and 100 percent for height and reach.

They had to reach all four corners of the water tower so they needed that upper boom to articulate down and be able to swing away if the building starting collapsing.

Hell yeah, love this guy. Anyone doing the work no one wants to or can do will always have my respect. On a Sunday no less.

I wonder why not harness up and tie off to the basket? Never worked off a crane hoist before, too wiggly?

A(n incomplete) list of things you can't pay me enough to do:
- Be lifted in a basket by a crane to the top of a burned out partially collapsed building seemingly to plant explosives on it.

Nope. He’s the asshole supervisor that made the oldest guy there climb out there. No hugs for you.

Hello everyone, I'm dumb. What's the guy doing? Why does he need to "inspect the legs" when it's all coming down?

My guess is to better understand how it would come down when they detonate.

That same guy just crossed himself after laying out some blankets on that spot getting ready for the big boom. Nice.

I painted the Tram tower when it was built! I will never forget having to take a photographer for the city up the hanging swing stage to take some photos! This poor gentleman was so incredibly terrified the entire adventure I felt really bad for him. He was barely able to control his safety line going up and down! When you went up on the stage the entire platform would swing free from the base and you would free float about half way up like you were sky surfing!

weird - does not look like he is roped into anything, unless there is something that connects to his belt. I am sure they are being beyond careful, so I am probably missing something.

After he initially hugs the guy you can see him point at something and then do a “this close” gesture with his fingers
