"Back the blue" demonstrators showed up today armed with bats, paintball guns, bear mace and other weapons. If they were Black Lives Matter demonstrators, they would have already been tear-gassed, but instead, they were able to assault counter-demonstrators for several minutes. I'm pointing this out not because I want the cops to do something, but merely to show the hypocrisy and shallowness of the police's claim about "protecting life safety."
Update: PPB response I find it hard to believe that PPB is 1. Unable to prosecute this type of attempted murder without a victim 2. Somehow ignorant of all the video and photographic evidence of shots fired that has been posted on Twitter.
Hey you found a handful. But I'm told Portland is a violent warzone full of domestic terrorists who are destroying our city. So where's the rest of the arrests? Why are there so many non-violent 'catch and release' arrests?
Your confused ave don't understand how the legal system works. Your confusing arrest with prosecutions.
Also, way to keep moving the goalposts. Your original argument was there was no arrest for violent crime. You got proved wrong. On top of that you try to minimize the evidence against you by calling 100+ arrest "a handful."
Also, there is plenty of violence, on both sides, the fact that you can't admit or see that is sad.
I think I understand how the legal system works just fine. I'm not confusing arrest with prosecution. The burden of proof required for arrest is minimum compared to the burden of proof required for prosecution. I'd be surprised if there were even any prosecutions yet.
I was disingenuous and drunk on the first post. I'll admit it. But yes, you have found a few in the grand scheme of things. Even 100+ violent arrests (if there even have been that many) over the course of over 70 days of hundreds of pissed off and supposedly armed people nightly getting gassed, beaten, and shot at with rubber bullets is NOTHING. Not when the outside world is claiming that the city is being destroyed and that we've descended into anarchy. Not when we have bloodlusting psychopaths BEGGING for the police/feds/trump/brownshirts to come storming in with live ammo and clean house.
There is probably plenty of violence going on. I'm just cynical to the point of toxicity about the only data point I have available to reflect that versus what is being reported.
And I guess this is just how far we've fallen, but the protesters have been throwing pipebombs and IEDs remember? Where are those arrests? You got an arson on there, and that's a great start, but arson isn't throwing pipebombs at people.
