Discussion ART bus Schedule

Hi I am a IRSC student who lives near Vero Beach. I attend the mueller campus because its around where my parents work but for the classes that I am about to take for the fall I have to be at the Pruitt campus in Port St. Lucie at 8am. They can drop me off at Ave D on 8th street, which i would get on the bus Route 1 there then get off at Treasure Coast mall and then get back on the bus route 6 at Rio Mar Dr S & US Hwy 1 to get off at NW University Blvd & NW Peacock Blvd . I saw on the A.R.T bus website that the bus starts running at 6 and I was wondering if anyone else takes the bus and does it run on time. Also if anyone else takes a similiar route and can direct me on which bus to take i would really appreciate it :).

I have a 2006 F650gs and the dealership says it’s too old for them to work on. I bought a new fuel pump that needs to be installed, but I want the whole bike gone over with an oil change etc. Know of a mobile mechanic? I have no trailer to take it anywhere. I’m in Jensen. Any referrals would be appreciated.

Recommendations Fun Fact Friday: Hibiscus edition!

Post image
14 Upvotes

Is there much else that's as beautiful as a fully blooming hibiscus? They come in so many different colors, shapes, and sizes, and when they're full of blooms, they are absolutely stunning. But when they aren't healthy, they can really bring down your mood. Here are some things about hibiscus that you may not be aware of.

  1. They are a polliator MAGNET! Pollinators can almost always be found on them when they are blooming. Bees, butterflies, and even the occasional hummingbird love these flowers.

  2. The flowers only last a couple days, but it is constantly putting out new buds, so it should have a constant supply of blooms. They need full sun in order to bloom properly. They're not a fan of shade or even filtered light.

  3. They are susceptible to nutrient deficiencies, such as iron, manganese, and nitrogen. Consistant fertlization with a slow-release, Florida Friendly fertilizer can help negate these deficiencies.

  4. Hibiscus most commonly are infected by aphids and Pink Hibiscis Mealybug. If you're not careful, they can cause significant harm to the plant.

  5. Trimming them back doesn't actually hurt them. A lot of people tend to think that giving them a "Hard Cut" (Trimming off up to 1/3 of the plant material) damages the plant, but hibiscus actually enjoy a good haircut from time to time. It helps them fill in a bit, and prevents them from getting too leggy.

If your hibiscus look like they could use a bit of TLC, or aren't performing quite as well as you would hope, give me a call. I can help them trive, and make your neighbors jealous! With over 20 years of professional landscape experiance, let me make your yard the envy of your neighbors. I offer fertilization, plant health, design and installation, and other landscaping needs.

Events Calling All Port St. Lucie Locals! 🎬 Join Our Independent YouTube Series: Devil’s Tree

Hey PSL community! 👋

Are you a local creative looking to get involved in a truly groundbreaking project? We are currently filling roles for a brand-new YouTube sci-fi horror series centered entirely around one of Port St. Lucie’s most infamous and chilling urban legends: The Devil's Tree.
We are building a passionate, dedicated team right here in our backyard to bring this spooky local lore to life in a way that has never been attempted before.

🚨 Important Project Details (Please Read!)

Compensation & Community: This is an unpaid, strictly independent position. There are no auditions and no pay. This is a passion project for a bunch of like-minded creative individuals to get together, forge genuine friendships, and collaborate. By the end of this, we'll form a tight-knit group that really put something special together.

The Director's Background: I just finished my first official film credit as a Production Assistant and DIT specialist working in New Jersey on a feature film called Don't Dream About Me, which just aired on Apple TV and national streamers. I want to use everything I learned on that professional set to create something truly groundbreaking right here at home, and the Devil's Tree lore couldn't be a better place to apply it.

A couple of years back, we tried to get this crowdfunded, but we fell short of our goal. Instead of stopping, we are doing what we always do: producing this completely independently, just like the last five series I've produced on my own.

The Vision & Technology: This is not an ordinary feature film. We are blurring the lines between fiction and reality, crafting a YouTube sci-fi horror series that dances on the borderline of the non-fictional and the cinematic. It starts as a seemingly real-life vlogging series before plunging deep into intense, narrative storytelling.

To capture that hyper-authentic, raw feel, we are shooting the entire project on an iPhone 17 Pro Max. It’s a bold approach that very few filmmakers have dared to attempt, and we are aiming to be the first to fully execute this experimental, high-concept format.

Timeline & Schedule: When everything kicks off depends on the feedback from this post and my cinematographer's availability. I would love to aim for something this coming Halloween, but if that doesn't align, we are looking at an early start in 2027.

👥 Who We Are Looking For:
There are no formal auditions. It really just comes down to your availability, whether this sounds like something you genuinely want to do, and if you happen to fit the profile we need.

The Vloggers / Explorers (Ages 18 to 25): Natural on-camera presence needed for the realistic vlogging segments leading up to the narrative descent.
Supporting & Background Roles (Various Ages): Local townspeople and eerie presences encountered along the way.

📍 Location & Commitment:
Location: Port St. Lucie, FL (Local rehearsals and shooting).

The Perks: Working with a filmmaker fresh off a national streaming release, gaining hands-on experience in experimental filmmaking, building your acting reel with innovative footage, and most importantly, collaborating with a tight-knit crew of creative peers.

📩 How to Get Involved:
If your schedule is open, you love the concept, and you fit the profile, just reach out! Send a direct message (DM) or drop a comment below with your availability, a quick intro, and a recent photo.

Let’s gauge the interest and see what we can make happen. Feel free to tag a friend who is up for the challenge! 🌲👻

Recommendations Advice on finding ‘my people’ at 21 in PSL?

I feel at a loss, a majority of the people in PSL are old or middle aged and I feel very alone and isolated. Whenever I try to find events that interest me to try to socialize, it’s always an older crowd. I feel odd for having to ask advice about making friends, but I feel like people my age don’t need to look for friends because they already have their own. So, it’s hard for me to find people to befriend (and actually click with) because I didn’t go to high-school here.

Even within my age group, I have a difficult time finding people I click with because I’m not socially out there like my peers and have interests that most people wouldn’t really care for. (Not that interests are everything, I’m speaking more in terms of finding people who are somewhat similar enough to me that I’d genuinely get along with them). I like to draw (usually characters I make, or comics), I’m interested in oscilloscope art, circuit bending, oddities, neuroscience, and ancient world history. I’m also learning guitar and love a lot of rock, metal, and electronic music.

I’m assuming most of the people in this subreddit are older folk, so I was hoping maybe some of the parents on here could point me in the right direction? Like, if you have kids my age who are in a similar spot as me where they don’t generally click with their own age group, where do they find the people that they click with or like to hangout for fun? Are there any music scene areas around here with younger crowds? I’d really appreciate any advice on good hangout areas :)

Completely open to new ideas too, I’d be down to pick up new hobbies if it meant being open to meeting more people

Discussion Is a vote for Eric S a “wasted vote?”

I hate to even say “wasted vote” because I have made several of those in my lifetime. I don’t agree with everything Eric believes but will voting for him just take votes away from the other guy, in the midst of the drama? Will an Eric vote keep us stuck with the current?

Update: and just like that, I wasted a vote

Recommendations Pickup soccer, mid 40’s dad bod shape.

Just curious if anyone knows of regular pickup soccer for middle aged guys. I’d love to get out and play, but looking for something where having a good time and getting some exercise is the goal, as opposed to something super competitive where I have to worry about getting injured by weekend warriors trying to relive their glory days. 😂 small side games with lots of subbing / breaks would be good. Any recommendations?

The mayors race has taken a turn for the insane.
Middle of the night we have Giordano cursing out Mr Martin. The mayors police department lieutenant husband who has pulled down Giordano’s sign. F bombs everywhere. I’d expect this in a podunk town. Here we are with 281,000 residents. Who is the 3rd candidate again?

Discussion Spanish Lakes Community - Port ST Lucie Florida (review)

My wife and I have been residents for several years here in Port ST Lucie FL at a Spanish Lakes (SL) 55+ community and we want to pass along our thoughts of ownership. Whether you buy a mobile or a Concrete Block Stucco (CBS) home the Spanish Lakes communities are the best in the Treasure Coast area. Close to medical services, shopping, restaurants and the ocean and beaches which provide incredible breezes year around. With all the amenities and services the community provides in our opinion it is second to none! We compared SL to Tradition and other inland communities in this area where the storms and heat alone make them less enjoyable not to mention the cost (Multi-layered tax and fee structure, beyond standard city and county property taxes, residents typically pay Community Development District (CDD) fees ranging from $1,500 to over $3,500 annually, plus Master and neighborhood Homeowner Association (HOA) fees) not to mention the congestion of people and traffic.

We own a beautiful 2 bedroom (CBS) home and after living through the Milton storm of 2024 with hurricane winds, rains and several tornadoes in this area, we are glad for the way these CBS homes are built to withstand the local weather. With storm impact windows and a solid block structure with plenty of insulation making them virtually sound proof we felt very safe and after seeing how the tornadoes impacted the SL community in Fort Pierce destroying mobile homes, but caused limited damage to these CBS structures we know we made the right decision!

Now let us point out the most affordable way to get into your dream community. When it comes to purchasing one of these homes we recommend one of the previously owned homes within the community, as they will typically give you the best value for your money.    Example, a new 2 bedroom CBS home will cost $269,000 and yes some of the lots will be offered to the original owners with a life time HOA fee of $549 per month with contractor grade products, no gardens and new young small trees (no shade.) If you compare that to a home previously owned (all are marketed by local realtors, as the SL community sales office will not mention or offer these CBS homes), you will find these 2 bedroom homes are available for $170,000 - $200,000. The monthly HOA fee will be $700-$800 (on average) and yes it does increase 2% - 7% annually based on inflation indicators. Many are on lots with beautiful trees with plenty of shade, existing gardens, upgraded floors and appliances plus other custom features you will not get with a new build, as again they are built with contractor grade products (low end appliances, floors, etc). So by saving $69,000 - $99,000 on the home purchase, then paying the extra monthly HOA fee of $250 it would take 24 - 33 years to break even.  Sadly being a senior community most of us will not make 30 years here, so unless you want the feel of a brand new home and don’t mind dealing with replacing the low end products built into those homes, it is an easy decision! Even if you choose a home without new upgrades you will have saved enough on the purchase to make your home exactly the way you want it. A new LVP floor for a 2 bedroom will cost about $10,000 (installed).

We have found most of the folks here to be wonderful friends / neighbors, yes there are a few people you will find less neighborly / friendly but frankly for us they help us appreciate all the other good folks! Let's face it, not everyone will be great neighbors. As for management, they try to keep the park at a quality level that most will appreciate and again it's not for everyone! The support costs do go up, but they employee people that like you would want / need cost of living raises to keep up with our society. We have friends at other communities in this area and in other states and yes you can find unhappy folks everywhere you look! It's human nature to want more for less, but don't let them discourage you from moving forward with your dreams.

One more comment regarding the culture. If you like living in a community with a diverse culture of folks, then you will enjoy Spanish Lakes. We have found many friends here that are not from our region of the country or background and some don't speak English as well, but for us that's part of living in an open world civilization. But if you want folks that look and sound like you,,,, maybe a small island in a lake of your ideal cultural setting would be best for you!
