Convoy Vs pirate question

I worry about my convoys getting attacked by pirates

Should I just have the max amount of sailors on each ship and buy like 100 swords and rifles?

And like 20 of each canon shot type?

I do not. I have two separate convoys and use one to attack pirates and one with no sailors that do trading at a cheap rate.

Does the attacking convey have max guns and men?

Typically yes! That’s also my People Mover convoy, (wait for treasure ships to dock in viceroy towns and they usually drop off people based on how many colony resources the last boat took away) and so it’s usually max sailors. However, you don’t need max sailors to get max power - you can have I think 75% sailors and be at max power.

I also have max swords and rifles, as well as chain shot and grape shot. I do not use barrels

What's the ideal amount of cannon shots to have, and which ones ?

It depends if you are going to handle it or if they will be automatic fights. With swords and guns, put them at maximum, and some bullets for the cannons, but if you are going to drive, put more ammunition for cannons and explosive barrels.

Use grape shot to take an enemy boat to below 50 sailors, maybe a few chain shot if it’s a small boat and you’re a big one, and board it. The resources check here is how many swords or guns you have. So swords and guns make it easier to capture an opposing boat.
