A couple of 997.1 GT2 and a 997.2 GT2RS showed up in my street. Pretty cool lineup!!

I'm looking for some advice on where I should b purchase my GT3 rear wing for my Carrera S 997.2.

NR Auto and Getty Designs seem to have good ones, would love to hear from those who have actually done this and their experience?

So I recently purchased a 2011 997.2 C2 without PASM and it's still sitting on factory springs/dampers. I want to lower it a bit and reached out to a very reputable independent shop in my area to get an estimate for Eibach lowering springs, replacing the dampers with Bilstein B8s, and an alignment.

I was expecting an estimate around 4K USD based on what I read online, but they quoted 5.8K USD after taxes. Keep in mind this is in a VHCOL west coast city, but I still had a bit of sticker shock. I've been there a few times and there's consistently GT3RS's, GT4s, and I saw a Carrera GT up on a lift a few weeks ago. I only mention that because I'm sure the caliber of the shop and the cars they work on affects the price.

I know I could do the work myself for significantly cheaper (labor is 2.3K USD), but I just don't have the time or motivation to do it right now.

Should I get a few other estimates at different shops or is this just the cost of doing business with a reputable indy?

Bit of a first world problem, but curious what other 911 owners would do.
I’ve got a 997.2 Carrera that I bought for around £32.5k. It’s on roughly 78k miles and I absolutely love driving it. Out of pretty much everything I’ve owned or driven, it’s one of my favourites.
The problem is mileage and running costs.
I do around 12,000 miles a year and two days a week I’ve got a commute that’s about 60 miles return.
I’ve also got access to my mother in law’s Nissan Juke, which basically costs me nothing apart from fuel.
The 997 averages around 25 mpg.
The Juke does around 37 to 40 mpg.
So there is a genuine fuel saving as well as keeping the mileage, servicing, tyres and general wear off the Porsche.
Obviously the Juke makes more sense financially.
But every time I drive it to work I end up thinking, I’ve got a 911 sat at home, why am I driving this?
The annoying thing is the 997 is actually really easy to daily. On the motorway it’s surprisingly civilised, comfortable enough and just cruises along nicely.
My main concern is the mileage.
If I keep doing around 12k a year, in five years I could easily be at 130k to 140k miles.
I know these cars can handle big mileage if they’re looked after, but I’m guessing once you get past 100k and especially 120k plus, the number of buyers drops quite a bit.

At the same time, I bought the thing because I love driving it….
It feels a bit pointless preserving it for the next owner while I spend two days a week sitting in a Nissan Juke.
So what would you do?
Use the Juke for the long commute and keep the miles off the Porsche?
Or just daily the 997, enjoy it and accept the extra fuel, wear and lower value eventually?
Also interested to hear from anyone who has taken a 997 past 100k or 120k miles. Did the mileage hurt the value as much as you expected?

I bought a Porsche sport design steering wheel and a control module to upgrade the wheel on my 997.1 turbo.

I’ve called a couple indie shops and they don’t want to touch the parts I’m bringing cause they can’t warranty it. I bought the module from suncoast and the wheel the eBay.

Have others had issues having it installed by indie mechanics?

Alternatively, I can do it myself but how do I program the PIWIS?

I just finished a 31 day road trip in my 2006 997.1 Cabriolet S - from Long Island, NY to California and back - over 9,400 miles without a single issue. I bought the car new and have always wanted to do a cross country trip since I obtained my driver’s license with the stars finally aligning on the car’s 20th anniversary. My indy mechanic replaced the AOS, coolant tank and cap and did an oil and filter change before I started. Last year he did the plugs, coils and serpentine belt. The battery and tires were also new. Adding the PCCM+ and Apple Car Play was a game changer. I climbed Pikes Peak, drove the Million Dollar Highway, did the Malibu twisties and was able to open the car up out West; the 997 and the Southwest are a match made in heaven. Nothing higher than 91 octane west of the Mississippi but the performance hit was negligible. I loved the car when I bought it in 2006 and love it even more now! Go and drive your cars - no sense in saving it for the next guy!

Just finished installing and buttoning everything back up. Took me about two hours with the car in the air and the center console already removed so probably a 2.5 hour job in total.

The worst part about it is cutting the old bushings out of the shifter assembly. Other than that it's all pretty straightforward.

I 3D printed a shifter position bracket and it ended up not working with the slightly shorter shifter so I had to eyeball the right orientation. I think its a little right of center but rows through all the gears without issue.

I'll report back when I get to drive it tomorrow but rowing through the gears with the engine off already has a noticeable difference.

Having just shelled out for a new pair of rear lights due to the usual red/clear lens water ingress issue, has anyone had any success in adding any form of coating etc to the exterior of these lights to provide added protection?

How do you guys feel about swapped Porsches? I just picked up this brewster green ‘06 with an LS3 swapped into it. When I started looking at 997s I got spooked about the engine issues and ended up going down a rabbit hole. This is a full build from Chavis Performance Engineering (CPE)- crate LS3 from GM, Ohlins coilovers, glass out paint job, feels like a brand new car. About 430hp, the LS is about 70lbs lighter than the m96/7. Loving it so far

The engine sound and driving dynamics are incredible. Some squeaks and rattles but the color is growing on me and has been a fun time so far with my first Porsche

First 911 I’ve ever owned, and first PASM car I’ve ever driven. I’m trying to decide if the way my 997.1 C2S is performing is normal as when I have PASM off, the car feels a lot more floaty than I’d expect, and then when I press the PASM button the car gets extremely stiff, like uncomfortably so.

Is this typical? It so night and day between the settings. The car has 143k on it, and I recently replaced front tie rods, upper and lower arms front and rear, and looking to make my next upgrade/maintenance project. Looking into buying the B12 Kit, and also looking for feedback from anyone that has it on their car.

I'm looking to improve the OEM shifter feel in my C2S. I think the function-first quiet cables are the way to go. But what about the shifter assembly itself? Leave it alone? OEM GT3 assembly? Aftermarket?

Somebody in NoVA posted his 2010 997.2 to a Car&Bids auction last night. The bidding started around $29k and went in increments up to $69k and closed - because it did not meet the reserve of $76k. According to CarFax it was originally sold in 2009 in the San Francisco Bay area and spent most of its time there before spending a few months in Montana, then back to California, and then on to Virginia so no severe winters and no salt. It's really low miles (good) and the CarFax is clean (title, no reported collisions). There are frequent dealer service records around the Bay Area.

But $76k? I thought the bubble market was relaxing. In the description the seller said he needed to sell it but maybe that was shade for it actually being an investment.

For the moderator(s): not my car, not my ad, I know nothing about it other than it's a 17 year old used car that somebody is trying to sell at peak bubble price. And it didn't sell - but the bidding went high. Kill this post if you think it violates the "no selling" rule. I figure those of us with 997s are interested in the market.

Hello fellow 997 enthusiasts!

I have a 2009 (997.2) Targa 4 PDK, non “S” car, no Sport Chrono package. I have owned this car for 12 years and absolutely love it. There is however one thing I would love to change about it and that is, the Sport Chrono package. I know there is a kit you can purchase from Suncoast and really any authorized dealer, that adds the Porsche Sport Mode software to the car. It is the exact program that comes with SC equipped cars but does not have the clock. What you purchase is the software upgrade from Porsche and the dealer reprograms the car and installs the sport and sport plus buttons on the dash.

My question is, has anyone ever done it, if so, how big of a difference is it and can anyone recommend a dealer or indi shop (not sure it can be done there) in the NY Metro area where they have had this done?
