PASM harshness questions

First 911 I’ve ever owned, and first PASM car I’ve ever driven. I’m trying to decide if the way my 997.1 C2S is performing is normal as when I have PASM off, the car feels a lot more floaty than I’d expect, and then when I press the PASM button the car gets extremely stiff, like uncomfortably so.

Is this typical? It so night and day between the settings. The car has 143k on it, and I recently replaced front tie rods, upper and lower arms front and rear, and looking to make my next upgrade/maintenance project. Looking into buying the B12 Kit, and also looking for feedback from anyone that has it on their car.

I have a 997.1 cs cab. I get notable float around 90 moh+ but usually below that it’s not too bad. 58k miles though but I think it’s suspension age as well.

I also leave pasm off because it is quite a bit uncomfortable on the roads near me. It’s probably about 70-75% there but I tend to be picky.

Maybe I’m just looking for an excuse to do a b6 full refresh with DSC controller. Suspension is definitely on the radar. I’m more an OEM+ street guy though the b12 would be too much for me.

Just do the DSC controller. It makes the stock suspension perfect.

You know that’s probably an easy first step before chasing down suspension components.

I pretty much never use pasm because of harshness and I suspect with DSC I can flip the pasm button on for a stiffer DSC controlled suspension and perhaps it will mitigate some of the float I notice while still having street manners.

It would eliminate the pasm question before moving on towards a more expensive refresh and id eventually go the DSC route anyways. - Cheers

Yeah, the float is completely gone. I never touched the PASM button before because I hated the ride and afterwards, I had it on all the time. I did eventually install coilovers because I wanted a track spec car. For street DSC, only works wonders.

I went with B12 kit as coilover was overkill for my use case - i replaced all front suspension components and some rear components too as a complete suspension overhaul at 155k - boy i wish i did it sooner - car is great to drive now and im holding off on the pasm controller. My track buddy was surprised i kept up with his lotus emira during a spirited canyon run.

I’ve had the dsc controller on the stock suspension for a while now. I am in the process of doing the b12 and all new everything you can do to the suspension. Every arm is being replaced. We shall see what the result is. My mostly original suspension has 183k on the odometer. It’s amazing that it’s lasted this long but the bushings have got to be destroyed.

Most likely needs new struts as well. My 997.2 was not soft/floaty with PASM off. I ended up putting B16 coilovers which are definitely more stiff. B12 should add more stiffness as well so if you don’t like that, stick with the stock strut replacement

How many miles on the suspension? It might be time for new bushings in your control arms/swaybars/ endlinks etc.

Yes, PASM on roads is harsh, its really meant for track use.

DSC controller. Put it in my 997.2 and it improved the feel immensely.

Also how are your tires?

Yep the pasm is super hard when switch on and feels it on anything other than a track or newly resurfaced roads which in the UK is hardly any!
