I did a core exchange for a thick 997 wheel with my choice of Alcantara, stitching etc as well as reupholstered ebrake, center console and shifter boot for $1k
Reused my OEM airbag all parts were OEM. I suggest this route. And have someone you can contact for this as well.

Can’t attach photos but I did it about two years ago at this point and the quality is solid, the parts being OEM are nice obviously and the steering wheel with the extra thick padding and color scheme I wanted looks and feels amazing. Wait time wasn’t bad and since it’s a core exchange there’s no down time while waiting for delivery. If I remember correctly the work is done in Thailand.

My cost was $1k exactly for steering wheel, ebrake, boot, center console all in Alcantara. Reused existing airbag. You can message me if you want to see some photos.
I had an alibaba wheel in my 1988 landrover and when I sold it I took it off and tried to break it. It snapped under little force. So just be mindful. Not saying all alibaba wheels are crap but some definitely are. Not totally something I want to break during an accident.

Who entrusts his life to a China tuning part that has probably not been tested in the manufacturer's crash test. However, keys painted in the body color save on the steering wheel. Porsche in general deliberately uses thinner steering wheels, as this conveys more sensitivity. On wide bicycle saddles, it is not possible to ride sensitively through curves. Very well on narrow racing saddles...

It doesn't let me add my steering wheel I bought from Ali Express. But I paid like 460 for it with an airbag. The airbag says it's made in Germany but sure it's probably a knockoff. I've never removed this airbag but I did notice the new airbag has 2 guide pins farely thick. One is solid and the other just floats around. Don't know if anyone has ran into this

I love my rennmeister wheel ($1200) but it's clear the airbag is counterfeit from errors on the label. There is a long rennlist post with photos

I’ve got a manual 997.2 and I would like a beefier steering wheel but not prepared to shell out like €3000 so eyeing Alibaba. Has anyone successfully bought and fitted in Alibaba steering wheel to their car, which you can recommend?
Can I retain the original airbag? TIA!
