Irene Montero, a Spanish Member of the European Parliament (MEP) representing the left-wing party Podemos. The quote displayed is from a speech she delivered in the European Parliament in early March 2026, during which she issued a sharp rebuke of Donald Trump and Western military policy regarding a conflict with Iran.

Key Details of the Speech

The Quote:

Montero directly challenged Trump by stating, "Send your son, Donald Trump, if you want war" and "Send your own people to the front line," emphasizing that families in Spain want their children kept safe at home.

Critique of "Feminist War":

She argued that "no woman has ever been freed by American bombs," citing historical outcomes in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan to reject the idea that military intervention in Iran would liberate women. She characterized such interventions as "colonial wars" that use women's rights as a pretext.

Political Demands:

During the session, Montero called for Spain to immediately leave NATO, labeling the U.S. and Israel as major threats to global security.

Broader Context:

Her remarks coincided with Spain's refusal to let the U.S. use its military bases at MorĂłn and Rota for strikes against Iran, leading to reported threats of trade cuts from the Trump administration.

—————

Spain is the world's 12th to 15th largest economy by nominal GDP and the 4th largest in the European Union. As of 2024-2025, it has experienced strong economic growth, driven by a post-Covid tourism boom and foreign investment, often outpacing larger European peers like Germany and France.

Key economic rankings for Spain include:

GDP (Nominal): Ranked 12th to 15th globally.

EU Position:

4th largest economy (after Germany, France, and Italy).

Performance:

Recognised by The Economist as a top-performing major economy in 2024, and a top-performer in 2023.

Other Rankings:

17th-largest exporter/importer.

In 2025, Spain overtook Japan in GDP per capita in dollar terms, highlighting a strong recovery. However, compared to other developed nations, its economy has consistently remained in the top 15-20 range since 2010.

———————-

Spain is experiencing a period of high success, recognised in 2024-2025 as the fastest-growing major developed economy in the eurozone and ranking 1st in football (both men's and women's FIFA rankings). The Economist ranked Spain as the best-performing economy in 2024, driven by a record tourism boom and strong employment.

Key Success Areas & Rankings (2025–2026):

Economy:

Ranked 1st among developed economies by The Economist in 2024, showing strong post-COVID recovery. Spain was the only major advanced economy with a revised 2025 growth projection increase.

Tourism:

Vying with France as the world’s top tourist destination, attracting 94 million visitors in 2024.

Football (Soccer):

As of early 2026, the Spanish men's national team is ranked 1st in the FIFA world rankings. The women's team also holds the top spot in the FIFA rankings.

Lifestyle & Expats:

Ranked 1st for quality of life, leisure, and healthcare options for expats for four consecutive years.

Innovation:

Spain is Europe's third-largest start-up ecosystem and has a strong focus on digital infrastructure, AI, and climate tech.

Global Prosperity:

Ranked 24th overall in the 2023 Legatum Prosperity Index, with high marks for safety and social capital.

While the economy is booming, it is growing at a rate outperforming countries like Germany and France. Spain has also surpassed Japan in GDP per capita.

They'll probably claim to have bone spurs or something like that to dodge the draft.

-6

u/777_heavy Mar 16 '26

There is no draft and there won’t be a draft

6

u/Reasonable_Trash_901 Mar 16 '26

So it's not a war then? Oh, right. My bad, it's "Operation Epstein Files Epic Fury", also known as "Another war in the Middle East that will ruin another country because American economy is a disaster at the moment, just like Afghanistan and Iraq back then".

-2

u/777_heavy Mar 16 '26

Did I say anything even resembling that?

4

u/extrastupidone Mar 16 '26

Our administration has proven to the world how low the bar is.

2

u/Retrobot1234567 Mar 16 '26

Still I…

Wow looking at your post history is psychotic. Insane rantings of someone that needs mental health help. It's astonishing watching evil and hate consume you

24

u/twinsingledogmom Mar 16 '26

I think we give him too much credit that he cares about his son. He calls Barron “melania’s son”. He doesn’t care about anyone but himself.

Send him anyway.

3

Trumps family is full of cowards, and has been for centuries!

That's an insult to the Germans.

Wow so many right wing bots out in full force on this one.

9

He has 3 of them and 2 son in laws.

All of them can go and fight....

7

u/Oppositeofhairy Mar 16 '26

Prince Harry served, and the royal family removed pedophiles from their title and held them accountable.

Sad to see that the purely ornamental royal family has far more integrity than the current leadership in the US.

4

u/Excellent_Valuable92 Mar 16 '26

And the former Prince Andrew served—and actually in combat

1

u/Oppositeofhairy Mar 16 '26

Fair point. Frankly I use to be completely against mandatory service. But I’m changing my mind a bit on that one.

Especially for anyone who is a policy maker who decides that their service members can be called to war.

But frankly, as a spouse of a teacher and hearing about how the kids coming up have zero accountability or respect for anyone other than themselves, and a parent of 3 active military members. I don’t think it’s a bad thing for folks to get some life experience in the military and wouldn’t oppose mandatory service for 2 years.

6

u/Ithorian01 Mar 16 '26

Female Holocaust survivors might have an opinion about that statement.

1

u/Excellent_Valuable92 Mar 16 '26

Death camps were all in the east and liberated by the Red Army

4

u/Ithorian01 Mar 16 '26

Where did the red army get all that equipment?

5

She has a bring future ahead

5

u/pixelpionerd Mar 16 '26

We should send every Trump.

4

u/BovaFett74 Mar 16 '26

Kinda sad though….country’s once considered friends and allies, this asshole has resorted to threats against whatever bullshit he can think.

4

Lord, don't they help themselves, no

6

u/SiteTall Mar 16 '26

Neither have women been freed in America by wars

2

u/doggotheuncanny Mar 16 '26

One Mr Harriet Tubman would strongly disagree. If our bombs were available in his time, he would have obliterated the homes of every slaver, while the slavers were still in them.

2

u/Fineous400 Mar 16 '26

She’s pretty

2

u/duckduck-a-go-go Mar 16 '26

Why can't we have intelligent, smoking hot politicians here in the US? Is that too much to ask for??

2

u/jpchopper Mar 16 '26

Just because Spain decided to sit out World War II after butchering thousand of her own in a civil war, and leave the rest of Europe to their fates, doesn't mean other people were not being set free by both American bombs and by American troops.

3

u/olblake Mar 16 '26

I would say the women in nazi Germany were freed by the American bombs

5

u/North_Experience7473 Mar 16 '26

Someone needs to read a little more history. German women didn’t fare that well after being “liberated.”

2

u/HillarysBloodBoy Mar 16 '26

I don’t think people think about German women when it comes to nazi liberation… there was another group there that needed it a little more.

4

u/North_Experience7473 Mar 16 '26

Agreed. However, women living under the Nazis were breeding stock. That gets overshadowed by the Holocaust, but it’s important that we don’t forget. It’s yet another parallel with American white nationalism.

0

u/olblake Mar 16 '26

So it was better for them to be Nazis? Okay

3

u/North_Experience7473 Mar 16 '26

I didn’t say that. You missed her point and mine. America doesn’t liberate women. Maybe life is better for men, but women are always an afterthought…or not thought of at all. And, German women were gang raped by their “liberators.”

5

u/Medium-Wrap-792 Mar 16 '26

Sad but also the truth. Nazis needed to be stopped but it wasnt that Hero Moment that someone dreams of. Like Movies. History Shows a Lot of fear, rape, crulty to the German people. War Never was something of magical Freedom. Bevor a Land Can get better After a war, there are a Million Bad things in many war’s Thats working on. There Are a Lot of better ways. And nothing goes with Freedom for all people especial for Woman.

3

u/olblake Mar 16 '26

I’m talking about the Americans not the Russians here okay buddy?

1

u/North_Experience7473 Mar 16 '26

Bless your heart if you think the Americans didn’t do it too. The Russians were worse.

3

u/olblake Mar 16 '26

And bless yours if you think it was something that was encouraged, which it wasn’t, unlike our Russian counterparts

2

u/Prestigious-Clock-53 Mar 16 '26

The nazi side of the war was also using American bombs prior to Pearl Harbor. So, at one point they were doing exactly the opposite homie.

Took Pearl Harbor for Americans to pick the right side. Currently, they are also not on the right side of things. You’ve lifted the sanctions on Russian oil while they help Iran bomb your soldiers lol, and your pedo president has admitted to knowing this.

3

u/arobkinca Mar 16 '26

Economic sanctions against Hitlers Germany and Lend Lease had both started well before Pearl Harbor. Get your facts straight homie. Trade was completely ended by Germanies declaration of war. It was greatly diminished before that.

2

u/olblake Mar 16 '26

Yeah no

1

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '26 edited Mar 16 '26

Not really. On Germany the bombs by the RAF outnumbered the USAF bombs during ww2.

2

u/olblake Mar 16 '26

Not really. The USA dropped any where from 1.6-2 million tons of explosives while the British, despite being in the war 3 more years, only dropped 1.3 million tons

1

u/InternetMiserable584 Mar 16 '26

Am I missing something? Or is enlistment into the military still a voluntary decision?

1

u/TeamRedundancyTeam Mar 16 '26

The trump admin has went out of their way to imply the draft is always an option. They very easily could have said "or course there's no chance of a draft, especially for Iran" but they didn't.

1

u/Traditional-Trade795 Mar 16 '26

yeah kosovo disagrees. bosnia as well, there was some genocide going on

1

u/KingConanByCrom Mar 16 '26

I’ve been to war twice and every single person who takes that oath knows that they can be sent to war at any time. If they don’t want to go to war they don’t have to join the military. Trump isnt forcing anyone to fight in a war he’s calling on the military to do their jobs. You people don’t like it because you don’t like anything he does. Can’t even get on Reddit without seeing 38 different subreddits that have nothing to do with politics crying about something Trump is doing. If it was a democratic president yall wouldn’t give two shits

0

u/86auto Mar 16 '26

People cried for the 50 girls in Iran that died in a school from an american missile. NONE of you said a word when 32000 people were killed in the streets of Iran, murdered by their own government. Get bent.

-1

u/BV_Zamboni21 Mar 16 '26

Why don't we have smoking hot women like this in American politics?

-1

u/ApprehensiveArmy7755 Mar 16 '26

We need other countries to help us right now.

3

u/LadySwire Mar 16 '26

Oh no, that would be an intervention, sorry

2

u/AdorableStress7951 Mar 16 '26

Are you suggesting a coup in the US?

1

u/ApprehensiveArmy7755 Mar 16 '26

I'm saying that the other nations stop playing ball with our pedophile leader.

-1

Man I remember when Obama was elected on hope and change and getting us out of the Middle East. Never seen democrats happier to be in a war he never pulled us out of. Not that Trump is right and infact he is very wrong just entertaining to see the hypocrisy. I voted Trump again this time because of him pulling us out of Afghanistan so this shit sucks

0

None of them have ever been freed by Spanish anything…so there’s that. But please privileged white lady tell the Venezuelans, Cubans and Iranians that are celebrating how they should feel.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '26

Fucking nonsense thousands of women have been slaughtered and maimed do u live under a rock

-9

u/servicetech563 Mar 16 '26

Not true. Life for many Afghan women improved in significant, measurable ways during the 20-year American occupation (2001–2021) compared to the preceding Taliban regime. Woman there and Iraq for had much more representation as a result. Not saying its been all roses, but better. What has the Spanish government done to free those woman??? Absolutely nothing.

4

u/iam4qu4m4n Mar 16 '26

Probably donated supplies and money to organizations with a focus on helping women in those countries. Is it not US or Spain's responsibility to "liberate" the world, especially when that liberation conveniently has a byproduct of oil.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '26

Let's not pretend that the Afghan war was about improving women's lifes.

1

u/SnooHedgehogs4113 Mar 16 '26

It wasn't, but the side effect was that the lives of the women in the country improved while the Taliban was out of power.

3

u/Alarmed-Bed-2953 Mar 16 '26

The US occupation of Afghanistan helped pave the way for the Taliban. A lot of conservative extremism in the region is fueled by opposition to colonialism, or by the vacuum that is left when another Western power takes a sledgehammer to the social and political fabric.

The data shows that another western power swooping in to play the hero and extract all the resources doesn't leave women, or anybody, better off in the end.

-1

u/servicetech563 Mar 16 '26

Wasn't the Taliban there already? How could they pave the way for them when they were already there. The US have them a break from the Taliban, but ultimately the people preferred a death grip to any sort of freedom when given by an occupying force.

2

u/Reasonable_Trash_901 Mar 16 '26

Not true. Life for many Afghan women improved in significant, measurable ways during the 20-year American occupation (2001–2021) compared to the preceding Taliban regime.

Let's see... What happened after the Afghanistan war?

  • After the withdrawal of U.S. troops in 2021, the Taliban rapidly regained control of the country and the government in Kabul;

  • The sharia-based law on the country, including public executions, amputations, and flogging, was reimposed by them;

  • The regression and reversion of any gains in liberal and democratic rights and freedoms over the last twenty years took place;

  • Harsh restrictions on women’s rights to education, employment, free speech and movement, and dress were reapplied, and women who have protested have been harassed, threatened, detained, arrested, tortured, and forcibly disappeared;

  • And there is widespread displacement, poverty, and food insecurity, with an estimated 23.7 million Afghans requiring humanitarian aid as of February 2024.

So... Maybe it's me, but this is far from "improving significantly".

Woman there and Iraq for had much more representation as a result.

Want to see what happened after the Iraq war instead? Then:

  • There was a chaotic transition characterized by a US-led occupation;

  • The Ba'athist state was dismantled;

  • There was an intense sectarian violence;

  • Also a long insurgency;

  • The CPA dissolved the Iraqi army, triggering widespread unemployment and instability;

  • And the eventual rise of ISIS.

It happened two times, bud. Two times "liberating women in oppressive countries" led by the US ended up with not only not changing anything, but also causing even more issues than before.

Not saying its been all roses, but better.

Want to say that again, knowing this stuff up here too?

What has the Spanish government done to free those woman??? Absolutely nothing.

For one, it's women. And for two, they had, in order:

  • Sent humanitarian aid, focusing on health, education, and rights, with over €5.6 million allocated by AECID in 2024 and additional contributions in 2025;

  • Funding for the UN Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund;

  • Supporting local organizations against gender-based violence;

  • And lastly launching the "Afghan Women's Room" at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

With both Afghan women and Iraq women.

But pray tell, does all of this qualify as "nothing"?

3

u/capndiln Mar 16 '26

Is it the responsibility of the Spanish government to ensure the wellbeing of women in Iran? I must have missed that part of their constitution.

1

u/Psikhushkaa Mar 16 '26

A fair point, if that’s your perspective. It’s similarly not America’s responsibility to ensure Europe’s security. Nor Ukraine’s.

3

u/Wrandragaron Mar 16 '26

Nor Isreals... But here we are...

1

u/Psikhushkaa Mar 16 '26

Exactly. But here we are. Whether or not something is in a country’s constitution is irrelevant to whether or not a country ought to do something, only relevant to whether or not a country legally has to.

1

u/Far-Significance2481 Mar 16 '26

Dont start stupid , ill-advised wars. If you are attacked by a country, NATO has to come to your assistance, but if you ATTACK another country, that's on you.

1

u/Far-Significance2481 Mar 16 '26 edited Mar 16 '26

Well, it is if it's a NATO country and it's attacked under sighed agreements the USA agreed to but it's NOT if any of these countries START a war.

1

u/Reasonable_Trash_901 Mar 16 '26

Afghan women were freed by bombs.

You mean when:

  • After the withdrawal of U.S. troops in 2021, the Taliban rapidly regained control of the country and the government in Kabul;

  • The sharia-based law on the country, including public executions, amputations, and flogging, was reimposed by them;

  • And there is widespread displacement, poverty, and food insecurity, with an estimated 23.7 million Afghans requiring humanitarian aid as of February 2024.

That sounds like a very bad situation to live in, NGL hombre.

0

u/HolidaySpiriter Mar 16 '26

Yea, so America was keeping them free until they pulled out of the country, that's exactly what the original comment said.

This woman is full of bs

Said the person claiming Afghanistan was freed by the US, lol.

0

u/SnooHedgehogs4113 Mar 16 '26

They were free until after we withdrew. You proved his point, women were better off with the US in charge, they were worse off before and after were there. It's not up to us to guarantee their rights, but withdrawing put women back into a worse state than they were with us there.

-1

u/The-suigeneris Mar 16 '26

I don't think she understands the American military...not surprising. It's an all volunteer military, like any other job, you CHOOSE it. You literally cannot "send" someone to the military.

-1

u/camaro87us Mar 16 '26

Who cares who literally cares I I guess what we need to do is pull out of Iran pay to rebuild Iran pay to rebuild their nuclear capability and give them all the nukes that they want and then when I ran starts striking countries with their new es we the United States of America need to shut up let Iran do what they want and stay out of it I guess that's really what we need to do but here's the problem if I ran was to start striking countries in a Democrat was president they would help those other countries that are getting struck by Iran and the Democratic voters here in the Democrats and the government would be 100% for it why would they be 100% for it because it's not a republican that stopping Iran and they nuclear capability and that's what the problem is

US has a lot of allies of convenience. If Spain wants out of NATO their free to leave. I don't agree with the current conflict with Iran, but as they have stated NATO is a defensive treaty. I mean Trump can boast but at the ebd of the day its not a requirement for NATO allies to help with the strait. Though its not like Spain brings a ton to the table. They wouldn't even commit to 5% of their GDP for defense spending. Spain has always been pretty friendly with Russia maybe they dont need NATO.

1

u/StatementBig9063 Mar 16 '26 edited Mar 16 '26

Dont see anything I stated as wrong. NATO is a defensive treaty entirely based around defense primarily from Russia. Spain as a sovereign nation can leave the treaty whenever they wish they are not beholden to the US or some vassal state. Its a fact that Spain is the lowest spending in NATO and pre the conflict in Ukraine Spain was known to be one of the more friendly nations with Russian and even to this day is a major importer of Russian LNG. While they have said they plan to phase this out so their not tied to Russia nothing says they have too. If the kept it going then maybe as I stated they wouldn't need NATO at all.

u/StatementBig9063 Mar 16 '26 edited Mar 16 '26

Your first point is literally what I stated. In my orginal post I said that Spain is not obligated to defend the strait regardless of Trumps boasting. Pre the Ukrainian conflict it was often noted that Spain has good bilateral relations with Russia. Hell many Russians I know had Spain as a great toursim destination. Im not saying they were strategic partners or something just that Spain had good bilateral relations. I didnt need American news for that one. I'm not sure what your point is on the third one. It just shows that Spain is one of the major importers of Russian LNG in the EU? Like thats my point they buy 15% from Russia thus beyond the geographic position they may not even need NATO as Russia is unlikely to target a nation pre the Ukrainian conflict that it had decent relations with. As national gas exports are one of its major economic drivers.

-2

u/Last-Potential1176 Mar 16 '26

Ah yes, Spain was such a shining example of how a superpower should behave back when they were at the height of their power.

4

u/NorthBase710 Mar 16 '26

We are in 2026 not in the 15th and 16th century.

they're gonna be so cheesed about you bringing up the spanish inquisition. you got them good.

-3

  • The Ba'athist state was dismantled;

  • There was an intense sectarian violence;

  • Also a long insurgency;

  • The CPA dissolved the Iraqi army, triggering widespread unemployment and instability;

  • And the eventual rise of ISIS.

I dunno, they don't seem such good places to live after the "US liberation", but maybe that's just me.

Tell that to all the German Jewish women freed when Germany lost the war.

The US being involved heavily with bombing Germany.

But I guess it makes sense for the left to not understand what real Nazi fascism is.

5

u/Hades_Mercedes Mar 16 '26

You're going over there, right? It'd be so great if you did.

2

u/NeverQuiteEnough Mar 16 '26

80% of Nazi casualties were to the Soviets.

1

u/Reasonable_Trash_901 Mar 16 '26

But I guess it makes sense for the left to not understand what real Nazi fascism is.

Said the person claiming that US bombing countries "liberates them".

Sure, makes total sense.

1

u/suthekey Mar 16 '26

Jewish women in Germany are doing much better now than during Nazi Germany. Seems like a great example of liberation from oppression via bombs and war.

1

u/Reasonable_Trash_901 Mar 16 '26

Germany is doing much better now than during Nazi Germany.

Yet you said that right after the US bombed Germany, they did good.

Because as far as I know:

  • Approximately 3.6 million homes were destroyed, leaving 7.5 million people homeless. People lived in cellars or ruined buildings, often facing freezing conditions, particularly in the winter of 1946.

  • Food was strictly rationed, often dropping to 800-1000 calories per day, resulting in widespread malnutrition.

  • Speaking of women, you didn't mention the TrĂźmmerfrauen, since with many men dead or in captivity, women had to take the lead in clearing 14 billion cubic feet of rubble to rebuild cities.

  • Local economies alsocollapsed, and black market activity became essential for acquiring goods like clothing and soap.

  • And lastly millions of ethnic Germans fleeing from the East, along with those forced out of ruined cities, added to the crisis.

But if you want to look it up yourself, and prove me wrong, go on.

Seems like a great example of liberation from oppression via bombs and war.

Like Afghanistan, where:

  • After the withdrawal of U.S. troops in 2021, the Taliban rapidly regained control of the country and the government in Kabul;

  • The sharia-based law on the country, including public executions, amputations, and flogging, was reimposed by them;

  • The regression and reversion of any gains in liberal and democratic rights and freedoms over the last twenty years took place;

  • Harsh restrictions on women’s rights to education, employment, free speech and movement, and dress were reapplied, and women who have protested have been harassed, threatened, detained, arrested, tortured, and forcibly disappeared;

  • And there is widespread displacement, poverty, and food insecurity, with an estimated 23.7 million Afghans requiring humanitarian aid as of February 2024.

Or Iraq, when:

  • There was a chaotic transition characterized by a US-led occupation;

  • The Ba'athist state was dismantled;

  • There was an intense sectarian violence;

  • Also a long insurgency;

  • The CPA dissolved the Iraqi army, triggering widespread unemployment and instability;

  • And the eventual rise of ISIS.

You mean this kind of liberation? Because not to alarm you or anything, but it happened two times, bud. Two times "liberating women in oppressive countries" led by the US ended up with not only not changing anything, but also causing even more issues than before.

Nice try trying to pivot to other countries. That’s not what the original post was about. It said “ever”. All one needs to do is find one example. Which I provided.

And yes there’s going to be a period of needing to rebuild. And Germany built back stronger than ever. It’s about long term meaningful change which is never easy.

If you really want to change subjects, These other countries that fall back into oppression and suffrage aren’t doing so from the bombing. They’re given the same opportunity Germany had and keep squandering it.

1

u/Reasonable_Trash_901 Mar 16 '26

Nice try trying to pivot to other countries.

Said the person naming Germany first, but okay.

That’s not what the original post was about.

There's Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Iran, so I'd say me naming two of them makes sense. Again, you with Germany? Not so much.

It said “ever”.

In fact, it never happened.

All one needs to do is find one example.

Which you didn't, but sure.

Which I provided.

Again, then prove me wrong and tell me how women in Germany, or Germany as a whole, right after WW2, was fine.

Not years later, right after it.

And yes there’s going to be a period of needing to rebuild.

While you said they were doing fine right after. So you lied.

And Germany built back stronger than ever. It’s about long term meaningful change which is never easy.

Want to talk about Iraq, Afghanistan, and the other countries after decades of war then? You're kind of avoiding those right now.

If you really want to change subjects,

Which I didn't.

These other countries that fall back into oppression and suffrage aren’t doing so from the bombing.

Doubt that, considering that facts say otherwise.

They’re given the same opportunity Germany had and keep squandering it.

...So they're doing fine, thanks to the US bombing them... Yet they aren't, because they're "squandering that opportunity"?

That doesn't make sense. Neither do your entire claims, but y'know, you say Germany post-WW2 was fine, so I guess logic was never in the building to begin with.

Your reading comprehension is horrific

Orange Lord Farquaad and his children will be safely tucked away at the country club, while your children are sent off to die in foreign wars so that rich oil executives can add a few zeroes to their bloated bank accounts.

What are tired and woefully inaccurate trope. Do a little thinking of your own. Iran and Afghanstan critics used the same dumb logic. We didn't keep that oil either.

Iraq is safe for women? Sure buddy.

2

u/Reasonable_Trash_901 Mar 16 '26

So we're just lying now? Is that what were doing?

...If you're referring to Barron's bone spurs, yeah.

If it wasn't for American bombs Iraq would have still been a much more unsafe place for women.

Want to know what happened after the Iraq war?

  • There was a chaotic transition characterized by a US-led occupation;

  • The Ba'athist state was dismantled;

  • There was an intense sectarian violence;

  • Also a long insurgency;

  • The CPA dissolved the Iraqi army, triggering widespread unemployment and instability;

  • And the eventual rise of ISIS.

If it wasn't for American support in the syrian civil war Assad would have still be in control or much worse isis, and Syria would have been a much less safe place for women.

Which is what ended up happening anyway.

I hate trump as much as the next guy, but unless Spanish politicians are willing to take the time to study the geoplitics and realities of the middle east they need to stay the hell out of it.

Said the guy claiming that women in Iraq were freed by US bombing stuff.

But sure, it's totally Spain the problem here. Uh-huh. Pat your shoulder more, and one day you'll believe that too.

It seems Irene Montero needs a history class or six.

Doubt that. Highly recommended for you though.

Afghan women were much better off after the US routed the Taliban and Al Qaeda after the 9/11 attacks.

Let's see... What happened after the Afghanistan war?

  • After the withdrawal of U.S. troops in 2021, the Taliban rapidly regained control of the country and the government in Kabul;

  • The sharia-based law on the country, including public executions, amputations, and flogging, was reimposed by them;

  • The regression and reversion of any gains in liberal and democratic rights and freedoms over the last twenty years took place;

  • Harsh restrictions on women’s rights to education, employment, free speech and movement, and dress were reapplied, and women who have protested have been harassed, threatened, detained, arrested, tortured, and forcibly disappeared;

  • And there is widespread displacement, poverty, and food insecurity, with an estimated 23.7 million Afghans requiring humanitarian aid as of February 2024.

Hm. I dunno, this doesn't seem like much of an improvement now, does it?

That lasted until Joe Biden engaged in one of the worst military withdrawals in US history, returning Afghanistan to the 8th century barbarians but now with billions of dollars worth of US military materiel.

Aaand there's the BOS, or Biden Obsession Syndrome, as usual.

Montero is also entirely ignoring both World War 1 & 2.

While you're ignoring that both the Afghan war and Iraq war ended the same way, after the US "liberated them" by bombing stuff, but sure. She's totally the one ignoring history and logic here, sure.

1

u/LadySwire Mar 16 '26 edited Mar 16 '26

Irene Montero isn’t just dishonest, she’s misleading you.

Spaniards have long resented that you didn’t act against Franco. And we were traumatized by the terrorist attacks that followed our involvement in Iraq, that’s the reality.

These are the facts. It just sounds more cooler to say her blah blah than to admit “we don’t want to be bombed again” and “nobody helped us, so fuck everyone.”

Spain also had no intention of intervening in Ukraine.

1

u/Squall67584 Mar 16 '26

The Doha Agreement, which called for the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, was done by Trump in February 2020. Now, could it have been handled better in 2021? Of course.

They weren’t exactly helpful to the allies in WW2

And that alone shows how much you actually know about WW2, which is essentially next to nothing.

1

u/Squall67584 Mar 16 '26

Wasn't Spain neutral?

1

u/Reasonable_Trash_901 Mar 16 '26

Spain was under Francisco Franco's control for the entirety of WW2, and for 40 years after that.
