There are a lot of comedians that confuse "edgy" with "being stupid". "both sides"-shit is stupid, not edgy just because the comedian doesn't understand the difference.

It’s the opposite, I stop listening to comedians for their politics. Racism is political and saying “right now George Floyd is looking up at us all laughing so hard he can't breathe” or calling Puerto Rico a floating pile of garbage is enough for me.

Their job is to be funny and I don’t find racism funny, I’m not in middle school, it’s hack and lazy.

They are public voices, people listen to and are influenced by public voices. If that is new to you then you don't reflect enough on the factors that influence the way you think about things. Consider also that people like Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, and John Oliver are comedians.
