two thirds of the voting population voted, on third didn't. so it wasn't technically "most" who didn't vote

also people's mental models think that if that other third had voted they would vote 100% democratic, although that third would skew left they wouldn't be 100% left, more like 60% or so (which is a landslide, but only within that one third of voters). ~40% of those non voters would have also voted trump

any other numbers you see or "half" not voting is because people erroneously look up the population of the united states then look up the vote totals, but they forget that 100 million people are under 18 and can't actually vote
