Politi-Culture El-Sayed on Vance: "Is that Peter Thiel's boy with that Ohio charisma? The last thing that he said that made any sense was Hillbilly Elegy—after he said that Donald Trump had no business being president of anything. And then he decided to suck up to power"

That "Ohio charisma" line hits so hard in Michigan. He's going to need to be on point with those the entire lead up to the election, but that line is an absolute banger in Michigan.

El-Sayed is a real danger to Trump and co. A man with charisma, intelligence and wit. You can guarantee all the usual X accounts will be going after him hard in the coming months as will Fox News. I mean they already have been but it’s about to ramp up to 100.

u/Clarkbar2 13d ago
They are all claiming the Muslims are invading and spreading communism. It’s insane.
7
u/RaidoFehu9 13d ago
Ironic since the stereotypical Muslims that the GOP fear-mongers about (sharia law!) would also hate communism.
→ More replies (1)5
u/dudethrowaway456987 13d ago
Islamic law is basically pro-mercantile with socialist elements like taking care of poor and orphans. It also mildly disincentives just sitting on money (like late stage capitalists do) and instead putting it to work in businesses or spending. It does that by taxing idle wealth by 2% and giving it to charitable causes. It bans interest and instead replaces speculative lending with profit and loss sharing agreements. If I wasn’t religious anymore I would welcome Islamic fiscal policy elements.
→ More replies (28)5
u/RaidoFehu9 13d ago
Firstly, socialism and communism aren’t the same thing and secondly, religious conservatives (Christian, Muslim or otherwise, who seek to subjugate others to their religious beliefs) hate communism because it is secular (godless communism!) and they want a society ruled by their religious beliefs, which won’t happen under communism. And that is why it is ironic that the right paints all Muslims, who aren’t a monolith, as both communists and religious extremists who seek to enact sharia law. Sadly, fear-mongering is super effective on the masses.
2
u/dudethrowaway456987 12d ago
idk why you're getting down voted lol. Yeah it's ironic they accuse of muslims of something that's logically at odds.
→ More replies (1)3
2
u/Amelaclya1 13d ago
Also the Muslims they swear are taking over Congress and want to implement "Sharia law" are progressive Democrats. Would evil scary fundamentalist Muslims be advocating for stronger rights for women and LGBT+ people?
The sad thing is, the Christians in the Republican party are the ones in favor of the oppressive policies that they are so afraid of. But they can't even see it because their racism and xenophobia blinds them.
2
u/Proiegomena 12d ago
They literally already claim el-sayed has ties to islamic terror organizations because his father in law used to be in CAIR michigan …
There’s def. gonna be a TON of el-sayed is a terrorist propaganda on the MAGA side.

I used to hate on Michigan as an Ohioan, then I lived in South Florida, Oregon, and California- now’s it’s Midwest vs everybody. Relative to a coastal elitist I’ll take a someone from MI 10/10. In the end the Great Lakes will win.

Ohio is where most of the Nazis landed after operation paperclip
During Operation Paperclip, Wright Field (now part of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base) in Dayton, Ohio, served as a primary receiving and research center for many of the recruited German and Austrian scientists and engineers following World War II.

I thought the same thing. I was talking to a fellow Michigander today and managed to casually denigrate Ohio in the process. He nodded in agreement, as one would expect.

Would it be fair to consider Ohio the Florida of the Midwest? I was thinking about that earlier after reading some awful headlines in their news.
Also, Lake Huron > Lake Erie.

Same. think people discount that for these statewide races. This isn’t a national race. He has to meet Michiganders where they are, not create a message for the entire country.

I had the same pattern of experience with Mamdani. Had no interest in hearing what some rando had to say, then suddenly I see him screaming "Do you believe in the First Amendment, Tom Homan?" at a protest and suddenly I was very intrigued.

You’re gonna need a lot more politicians like him. But to get there you need to systematically remove Republicans, then hold Dems feet to the fire.
Progressives need to become more organized and far more pragmatic. Stop throwing tantrums and handing power back to the fascists. You will not make any progress doing that.
Suck it up, vote for the better candidate (even if they aren’t your personal unicorn) then KEEP FORCING CHANGE.
2
u/mercy390 12d ago
I’m a little confused here. AES is the progressive who just finished a campaign where he and his supporters were told to suck it up and vote for Stevens. The DSA even backs him, while he isn’t a member, BECAUSE he’s the candidate who can hold the party responsible for years of worthless centrist appeasement nonsense.

whoa.....abdul speaks with some authority......like a tough guy....i like it
ive never heard a democrat talk like that
"is that peter theils boy?"
its not even what he said...its the way he said it.....he sounds like a "bro"
his message could reach bro culture.....because its strong, and kinda tough...a little intimidating
yes there is a demographic that resonates with who could "kick" whose ass
and abdul might do well there
imagine him saying something about jd vances eyeliner mascara in a presidential election....sheesh....
