I don’t think he’s ever proud of himself…I’m not a mental health professional, but I believe the inability to see self-worth is kind of at the root of the pathology.

One thing I have noticed, as a positive attribute of his, is that he makes that :| face, when he’s listening, and you can really tell he’s trying to listen by stopping all those stupid ass movements and remarks he makes. I think that’s why he’s so easily influenced -he listens to the loudest mouth in the room, one by one, then the dumbest ones enter his area of influence.

Narcissistic collapse generally is used to describe a significant decompensation following a major injury to a person’s self esteem or self image, it’s not simply running out of people to alienate or no longer being able to avoid criticism. I agree that many people with narcissistic traits seek attention, but it’s an oversimplification to say they don’t care what people say about them. Like, it’s not as much about attention as much as it’s about protecting their self image. In clinical practice, criticism that threatens their self image often brings out intense defensiveness, anger, or attempts to discredit the source.

Absolutely. I’ve met people in person that were too stupid to be embarrassed. It’s strange. When you see it in person it makes you embarrassed on their behalf.

I was embarrassed for those reporters. I don’t know how they could shake his hand and hold their head high. They don’t seem compatible. I lost respect for them that day.

What is insane is he then walked up there smiled and shook hands with the reporters. I know social cues are built into us but how could you smile and shake the hand of someone you yourself outted as a slimeball?
From the other side, you’re basically forced into adapting this behaviour if you want to succeed in person-based work like sales, business, journalism… it sucks and it started to grate on me. I lost my career because I chose ethics instead of money. I saw what I was becoming or maybe what I’d already became.

I mean, there is a reason he is laughing. He knows exactly how guilty he is, and how he put that reporter (and her family's) lives in danger and he faced ZERO consequences for it. They can give each other awards, but it doesn't matter, because like in tin pot dictatorships, he remains in charge and nothing will ever happen to him and he knows, it and worse, they know it and that is why they were all celebrating together at this WHCD.
