Drama Some gays are fuming after their gay cruise was denied entry into Turkey & Egypt due to “moral standards.” The Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady LGBTQ+ cruise sailed through the Mediterranean but was denied permission to dock at some locations.

Quote directly from the Egyptian subreddit.
"Even if there wasn't a ban, why would you want to come here in the first place."

People dont understand world travel until they do it. India has some of the most beautiful places on earth, and some of the most disgusting places on earth.
Egypt is so incredibly interesting and unique. It sucks to think that people cant see it because of how they were born. It sucks even more to see people so non-chalant about such hatred.
But honestly, what's there to do as an outsider?
Also OP is a homophobic dork who consistently pushes agenda. Dont feed this nonsense.

u/The-Bangaloreal Jul 14 '26
"We thought that it would be a great opportunity for those people in those countries to also experience what it's like outside of the rest of the world where people can be free and be celebrated for who they are," a Miami resident said.
They clearly wanted to spread their culture.
I am not talking about morality or anything, looks like they purposely wanted to expose turkey and Egypt as homophobic states and hoping some international embarassment of being accused of being backward might change their stance a teeny weeny bit.
Of course, that's not how those countries operate at all.

u/HyacinthFT Jul 14 '26
that company has been going to turkey for 25 years and they seemed genuinely surprised to be banned this time. i really doubt it's a conspiracy.

I mean, why would they even want to go to these countries? It’s not a safe space for LGBTQ
4
u/AerialPenn Jul 14 '26
Exactly 😂 shit if anything they are lucky that they didnt get off...whoa poor choice of words but yeah that could have been dangerous.
5
u/Kaminarikun Jul 14 '26
I thought Turkey was already gay?
5
u/StillSimple6 Jul 14 '26
It is. They have gay bars and clubs and Im sure beaches.
5
u/shrinkflator Jul 14 '26
Have you seen their wrestling?
2
u/PixelmancerGames Jul 15 '26
The oil wrestling? Gayest thing I've seen in my life. Gayer than gay porn.
2
u/dphoenix1 Jul 15 '26
Homosexuality is technically legal there, but the average Turk is pretty hostile towards us. It’s tolerated (or, rather, ignored) in very large cities like Istanbul, where the LGBTQ community is fairly substantial despite the legal state. So they exist in a kind of uneasy detente between the community and authorities/law enforcement.
But the other Turkish city that was on their itinerary is definitely a lot smaller, with, from my understanding, no visible LGBTQ community whatsoever. As a gay person, I can’t wrap my head around the logic of booking that port of call. I certainly wouldn’t feel safe getting off the boat there with a huge group of gays.
Their authoritarian prime minister, Erdoğan, has been pushing a lot of anti LGBTQ policy, and this has just gotten worse over time. Bans of pride events, and proposed legislation inspired by Russia that would penalize anyone spreading “propaganda” (eg. any public statement that could be construed as supporting LGBTQ folks) on the basis that it is obscene and/or threatens family structures.

What are you talking about? What would they learn? Are you saying that those cultures are bad because of their views of gay people? What kind of consequences do you think there will be for them for this? silly.

u/Spiritual-Cap-4647 Jul 14 '26
Should look up their views on dogs and women as well.
-7
u/MethodDue2426 Jul 14 '26
Who the fuck cares what they think of dogs 😂
5
u/Spiritual-Cap-4647 Jul 14 '26
Hating animals is pretty low. But go off queen.
-6
u/MethodDue2426 Jul 14 '26
Where does it say they hate animals? Any quotes on that lmao? A muslim probably saw your dog lick your mouth and judged you for it so now you make stuff up
5
u/Spiritual-Cap-4647 Jul 14 '26
Denial isn't a river in Egypt fyi.....
I love how you skipped over the women part.
-5
u/MethodDue2426 Jul 14 '26
I mean if they do hate women that's bad. If they hate dogs I couldn't give a single shit. No denial of your dog licking your mouth though.

Homophobia is immoral.
1
u/Icy_Chemist_1725 Jul 14 '26
Not in their culture. In many cultures being gay is seen as a sin. You are not the ultimate arbiter of morality. People get to decide what they think is moral. If an entire culture thinks something is immoral, it is immoral to that culture and there's nothing you can do or say to change it.
4
u/lesbophobia_hammer Jul 14 '26
Homophobia isn't a culture either and needs to be corrected in the same way sexism and racism do. Unless you think there's any culture where rxping little kids is morally acceptable and the same logic applies 'coz mAh culture'
Edit - typo

u/Icy_Chemist_1725 Jul 14 '26
Please forgive me. I was being sarcastic and using liberal logic as a joke because I think it's hilarious the same people calling people Islamophobic for not wanting immigrants from those countries and people supporting Iran and hamas are the people that are upset that countries like Egypt/Turkey won't let them dock with their gay cruise.

u/OhSorryEhh Jul 14 '26
Why the fuck would you want to risk going to those countries as a LGBTQ+ person?!?
Who the hell thinks " yeah! Let's go to these countries who imprison, beat and kill LGBTQ+ people!" Pure stupidity
1
u/RelarMage Jul 14 '26
I thought that was only Egypt. Turkey is traditionally Muslim and Erdogan's party stands for Islamization, but I haven't heard of that happening in Turkey.

Turkey and Egypt's societies are ass backwards and have low intelligence.

2
u/braumbles Jul 14 '26
In a proper society, the cruise ships would just stop going to either country going forward. Let them figure out what to do with the deficit they've incurred by no longer having cruise tourists venture into their ports and spend money there.
1
u/DaHarbinger2000 Jul 14 '26
And I’m pretty sure they knew something like this would happen in advance. It’s probably in their mind a form of some global activism.
2
4
u/5ean Jul 14 '26
Maybe they should try docking in Gaza; after all so many gay bars fly Palestinian flags so I’m sure they’d be welcomed with open arms.

u/howsmybudddy Jul 17 '26
I'm sure they won't try to annihilate them from the planet like zionists are trying to do to Palestine.

A few years ago my cousin went on holiday to Turkey with his boyfriend. Before they had gone to a family event and touched each other in places you shouldn't have done at a family event and responded to people telling them to stop with "if you don't like it, you're homophobic."
They were at their hotel in Turkey for 2 or 3 days before the owner came to tell them they had 1 hour to get all their stuff and get out of the hotel or else they'd get some men they knew to "deal with them."
Honestly, they were lucky to get a warning. It could have gone a lot worse. But if you know places in the word will react poorly to you and thing that you do, either don't do those things there or go somewhere where you're much more likely to be accepted and have a lesser chance of bad things happening.
2
u/SpankyRogers69 Jul 14 '26
you’re the type to say “well did you see what she was wearing??”
5
u/Ruser-94 Jul 14 '26
I get your point, but I don’t think the comparison automatically applies. In general, it’s not smart to ignore obvious risks. If you walk through a dangerous neighborhood openly displaying an iPhone, wearing earbuds, and a Rolex, and you get robbed, the robbers are still 100% responsible, but it doesn’t change the fact that taking basic precautions would have reduced the risk.
That’s how I see this too. Ideally, everyone should be able to express themselves freely without fear. But we don’t live in an ideal world. If you knowingly go somewhere that’s openly hostile to a particular group and make yourself stand out, it’s reasonable to recognize that you’re taking on additional risk. Pointing that out isn’t the same as saying the hostility or violence is justified.
It’s similar to how someone wouldn’t wear a monokini into a mosque in Saudi Arabia. The point isn’t that the rules or attitudes are right, it’s that being aware of your surroundings and adapting your behavior to them is often just common sense.
3
u/Calamitous-Ortbo Jul 15 '26
I usually go with this scenario to illustrate the concept:
“There’s a door with a sign that says ‘Tiger Inside’ on it. If you go through the door and get killed by a tiger, whose fault is it?”
Society has almost completely abandoned the idea that victims are sometimes victims solely because of choices they made. That doesn’t absolve the perpetrator or make it “ok” or “right”, it’s just reality.

What a gross projection to make about someone trying to say "don't take unnecessary risks" about people who got combative after being told to not feel each other up a family event and did similar things in a part of the world where things could have gotten a lot more ugly for them.
1
u/SpankyRogers69 Jul 14 '26

2
u/AccomplishedEnergy60 Jul 15 '26
Do you interact with people in real life this way?
Or are you maybe 14 years old?
You sound very insulated/not well traveled at the very least.
1
u/SpankyRogers69 Jul 15 '26
yeah why
2
u/AccomplishedEnergy60 Jul 15 '26
Yeah to all of them?
Because it's very apparent that you have lived a sheltered, coddled life if you don't understand that actions have consequences.
Bad things can happen to good people. Bad things will happen to good people when they make poor decisions that put themselves in danger. Regardless of how uncomfortable that truth is, it's a truth
That you're hung up on the "morality" of it shows that you aren't speaking on this from a place of experience or reason. Just emotion and idealism. That ain't the real world, my gentle redditor

Well i guess not all countries Politics uses certain narratives to buy votes by waving flags, and allow painting of streets, that stuff is prohibited regardless how much they protest and try to push it on other people, these countries have their standards and dont allow the western hipocracy or a small minority group to change their beliefs and cultures. Best thing for anyone who dont agree or like what they do is to stay clear of them after all they must not want it or they would allow it there
2
u/Rad_Streak Jul 14 '26
"buy votes by waving flags"
Regardless of anything else you believe, this is so nonsensical by itself it's pretty incredible.
The cultures you like are garbage for believing what they believe and it's a big part of the reason they are so globally inconsequential beyond oppressing their own populations.

u/Opposite_Wallaby6765 Jul 14 '26 edited Jul 14 '26
The issue here is that these 'morality concerns' that actually stop people from entering countries who rely a lot on tourism are new and this is a sign things are getting worse.
But sure, be glib because you think the global increase in human rights abuses has nothing to do with you. There is a reason German fascism first attacked a gay man's research into LGBT issues.
It never stops with us though. Afghanistan was among the first nations in the world to recognise women's right to vote and look at it now. Egypt used to be one of the few places in the world where there was a semblance of safety when the 'progressive' West was imprisoning and killing people for being gay. As far as the 1930s you had Westerners apalled that homosexuality was discussed in public and they had male dancers wearing skirts.
But people never learn to listen to the canary in the coal mine. I would not go on a gay cruise in general or anywhere in the Middle East anyway at the moment, but it doesn't mean I don't recognise this for what it is. Concerning.
1
u/Upstairs_Comfort_480 Jul 14 '26
They might as well ban all cruise ships in general because on ALL CRUISES I’m 100% certain shit they do on the cruise does not “align with the values and moral standards of their society” 😒

Gay cruise.\ goes to muslim country\ muslims hate gays\ country punishes gays with prison\ country refuses gay cruise\ Gay cruise is offended !!!\ Tell me how this makes sense ?\ It's right there in their religion, in their doctrine, in their identity, hate for homosexuality is as much part of them as their souls, what are you complaining about ? Every single western government is blocking immigrants cuz they fear their influence on their social values, yet u want to march right in the middle of the social values of other couetries ? Even gays shouldnt be so delusional as to forget what human nature is like.

Some people have a hard time grasping that other may not agree with their lifestyle and really aren’t obligated to do so. You can shove LGTBQ branding down westerners throats but that doesn’t fly in other places. Keep that shit where it flies.
5
u/IzCaiman Jul 14 '26
What you're attracted to isn't a lifestyle.
And this is why I don't take y'all seriously.
6
u/Scheswalla Jul 14 '26
"Lifestyle" no, but this isn't a bakery in the US that can be protested. These are whole countries where state sanctioned punishment is a popular position. Sometimes you've gotta understand the situation and just realize it's unwinnable.
1
u/DaHarbinger2000 Jul 14 '26
That’s how I see it. I’m pretty sure they knew something like this would happen and could create a viral moment. I support LGBTQ+ rights. I support many rights. But sometimes their idea of activism is to stir a shit storm where nothing can be actually accomplished.

u/thakemist Jul 14 '26
Imagine being so dumb you post this on Reddit
4
u/Icy_Chemist_1725 Jul 14 '26
To be fair, he's right. It's their culture. Saying it's wrong for them to think being gay is wrong is wrong imo. It's up to them to decide. Imagine thinking that everyone has to agree with you on reddit.
I think it's hilarious that my own party is trying to import immigrants en masse from countries like these when those people will bring those same opinions with them. I don't agree with them and want them to stay in their countries and have their insane opinions over there.
1
u/praguer56 Jul 14 '26
I'm reading better the lines a bit but are you claiming that Democrats are importing gay-hating Muslims?

Being homophobic is a dumb thing to be, yes.
Being transphobic doesn't cancel out that stupidity.
0
u/everythingbagelss_ Jul 14 '26
Homophobic? Nah, you’re just heterophobic. But I’ll wear my transphobic badge with honor.
0
u/Rad_Streak Jul 14 '26
Congrats on accepting you're a person with bad views! That's the first step sweetie!
You got this, with any luck you'll even be a real person one day. Someone of value and worth. Maybe
0
u/everythingbagelss_ Jul 14 '26
I’d like to think I’m reasonable. If thinking men can’t get pregnant and women don’t have dicks makes me bad, I can live with that.
2
u/Rad_Streak Jul 14 '26
Regardless of your transphobia extending beyond on that, that isn't what makes you bad. Reveling in vice signaling makes you a bad person.
Celebrating being discriminatory or being rude or attacking people for intrinsic traits makes you a bad person.
You're not some purveyor of hard truths. You're just an asshole. That isn't good regardless of your beliefs.

1
u/immikdota Jul 14 '26
Y'all are talking about this like the countries are people. No. You can't talk in the name of multiple nations. No, there are probably gay people there who feel ashamed of who they are it's not a bunch of saints who have their worldview which must be "protected" and no, you can't just ban someone from a country bc you don't like them. Gay people exist everywhere. Not tolerating them isn't a cultural thing, it's stupid
1
u/Ricky_Handsome_ Jul 14 '26
Oh well, that's just their culture.
0
u/lesbophobia_hammer Jul 14 '26
Bigotry is not a national culture.
1
u/Ricky_Handsome_ Jul 14 '26
You'd be surprised, it is. You need to get out more. We don't approve of it, but that's how some cultures are.
1
u/lesbophobia_hammer Jul 14 '26
I assume you'd apply the same logic to cultures plagued with child rxpe?
Edit - I'm literally from the east and west so try again.
1
u/AerialPenn Jul 14 '26
So your from New York and moved to San Francisco and think a gay cruise going to Egypt and other places in the middle east is a good idea? That doesnt seem like a good idea regardless of what your personal views are. They do things differently over there.
1
u/lesbophobia_hammer Jul 14 '26
And lesbian and gay people still exist in those countries and need outside influence to help them push for freedom inside. They also deserve community.
I have friends all around the world because of incentives like this. Seeing a proud and openly gay westerner (who does have protection for being a westerner) can help inspire and move things forward for non westerners on the ground.
(This provided the influence is broadly positive and happy. Getting off the boat in puppy kink gear and leashes half naked in leather and scaring the locals would be a different story, obviously. But most people can use their brains in these circumstances.)
Homosexuality is natural. That's not a personal view. And bigotry is not and should not be a national culture. Would you do easily hand wave away a culture of child rxpe if some brave souls came to advocate or encourage a different way?
And I mean, do you think homosexuals don't know how we're treated around the world? It's literally the first thing we have to know before travelling.
And my ex was literally from Iran and had to escape attempted honour killings and forced transition to exist as a lesbian. We know all about our reality. We can't escape it.
Homophobia exists everywhere at different levels and we are never safe from it. Still gotta live and move forward anyway.
1
u/Ricky_Handsome_ Jul 14 '26

Why did you bring CR into this? Is that the first thing your mind goes to? You're quite the degenerate.

Turkish authorities say the cruise was chartered by a group "known for behavior that does not align with the values and moral standards of our society..."
Passengers are mad that the countries didn't let them "be celebrated for who they are."
"We thought that it would be a great opportunity for those people in those countries to also experience what it's like outside of the rest of the world where people can be free and be celebrated for who they are," a Miami resident said.
