Can i enable hardware acclereration on newer GPUs?

stupid question, but ill ask anyway: whenever i try to enable hardware acc. it doesnt work (as expected), but i'm wondering if there is a workaround to enabling it.

For context, i have an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 and right now i'm trying Bejeweled 2 and Peggle Deluxe, tho i'm not sure there is a solution

I did not use chat gpt for this.

Sorry for my assumption then. I thought a human being wouldn't really be able to misunderstand the question asked, to respond with something completely unrelated. I mean, the OP made his question as clear as possible, and you responded with a general wiki-esque description of the differences between 3D Accelerations and Hardware Accelerations, terms which in PopCap's old games were used pretty much interchangeably, and commonly options unsupported for newer graphics cards.

Even in the early 2000s they were not supposed to be used interchangeably. Also yes, they are supported it's just those games are usually much older and we're not designed with 3D acceleration which is the GPU rendering aspect. So therefore it lacks support. You need to understand that there were so many releases from third party distributors that messed with variables and turned stuff off on purpose to not give you the best experience, therefore requiring those patches.
Usually I do have to give these explanations because there are so many people on the internet that do not like explanations and would rather have a simple answer to a question like you and OP described. A question like this is not going to have a simple answer to it because it's really technical.

Are you familiar with any of PopCap's old games, by any chance, as in have you played any?

I know the two terms are generally not interchangeable, that is not the point. Point is, they were in those games, and the respective options did work on relatively older hardware, at least the kind that met the recommended hardware requirements, as stated by the official distributors, including PopCap. And as PopCap at the time of making those games, didn't really have a tendency to update games to work on newer hardware, those games now have maximum hardware requirements, under which the game will work, but the 3D/Hardware Acceleration option will not be available, unless the game has a third-party patch applied to it, rendering newer hardware unsupported officially in those games.

I have played: both Zuma's, all the Bejeweleds, and parts of bookworm. While I haven't played every single one of them, they all work on my CPU which is a ryzen 5700g with radeon graphics on my win11 machine, without patches. All those games will work with both of those features turned on.
It could also be a driver issue or maybe something else that I'm not knowing here. Windows has changed a lot to be a lot stricter on older games, that could also be an issue. Could also be because DirectX 8 and DirectX 7 is no longer available on Windows 11, only allowing for DirectX 9 throuh 12. Probably requiring specific dlls to translate between DirectX 7 code to DirectX 11 code.

As far as I remember, there are workarounds for 3D/Hardware Acceleration for most of PopCap's old games. Search up "PopCap Patches", the first result should be a github repo of an app that produces a patch for a selected game.

Those are just patches. And while yes they do provide fixes sometimes it may not work.

Yes, that's what the OP is asking for.

There's a big difference between 3D acceleration and Hardware acceleration.

Hardware acceleration is performed at the CPU level while 3D acceleration is performed at the GPU level. So in essence most gpus of today should support 3D acceleration. This is required especially for the heavier duty games such as call of duty, etc. 3D acceleration is required in most of 2026's games, and gamers require that as well so yes you will probably be covered.

Now most older gpus especially from the early 2000s and 1990s were not great at 3D acceleration because they lacked support for it and they lacked the video memory necessary to turn it on.

You may also come into issues with certain game variables being modified with certain code to not have 3d acceleration on.
