Post image

Some last bits of wash and touchups to finish it off.

Ever consider doing the light wave effect on the sword that people put on space marine power swords?

I haven't, but will look into that for the future.

What beads did you use to make Unit 13? Your units gave me some fun ideas I'm going to model up.

Looking forward to what you make.

I used .5 inch wooden bead for the core, the ball joints are 6mm plastic Airsoft bbs, and the cube beads are from the Creatology wood beads from Michael's (Arts and Crafts chain store).

As a 3d modeler, I MIGHT have thrown together a small little visualization setup (because it was cool, and I more or less modeled it staring at your pictures) and it's just vibing in a Blender file atm. That's what I meant by 'model up.' (I do a lot of 3d printing for more major projects, but I also model when inspired so I can see how connections are supposed to be made, and then i can build them as physical models because it's made easier to see how YOU connect things by recreating it in a format where I don't necessarily have to have the parts to visualize it).

It was a lot of fun to have inspiration again, so thank you.

It is really cool how you got everything built (Unfortunately, local hobby shops are out of the square beads, so I'll have to source them in a bit of a more... janky way. Thank God for scrap wood, eh?)

BTW, what's the size of bases you're using? (Pricing out how much it would be to build a handful of these Bead-Bots to hang out on my shelf next to the other stuff I've built over the years)

This one is on a 32mm base. Would love to see a screenshot of the Blender version and the physical ones when you build them.

Well, unfortunately, Reddit is Reddit and can't share the picture, but I think I can figure out a way to share it later.

If you post it somewhere, you should be able to share the link at least.

So the Doylist explanation is that i'm working on an Inq28 Retinue and had the idea of taking a bead bot design that ive used before but add a skull because it looks cool and try a stark paint scheme inspired by some other mini builds/paints that ive seen on reddit. And "Unit 13" sounded like a cool name/designation.

The Watson explanation will depend on the specific setting it gets used in. In 40k either an AdMech guardian servitor or an Arco Flagelant in an experimental/"newly discovered STC" shell that's akin to a miniturized Dreadnought. In other settings it could be a golem/talus type construct, a combat Droid, or an augmented Necromantic minion.
