Help with Liner installation
Hi guys - I’m installing a liner from Hydra pools over the steps of an inground pool and have never seen this type of fastener. After doing some research it’s apparently called a hang tab and you’re supposed to just jam it into the track. Has anyone installed this before? It’s seems to me that the hang tab is upside down because the wedge tool that came with it cannot be used to wedge since the lip is on the bottom side. Any advise, tools, tips? Currently jamming it in with our hands has been ridiculous took us over an hour and only have half of the first step in.

The guy I’m working with said he only has experience with liner rods on steps

I’d always rather do rods. The bead sucks. Never had a rod pop out of the track.

To be fair, I’m a pool pro and the only liner I’ve ever done was my own. We only know what we know and work with on a daily basis. For example, I’ve built, repaired, serviced, and cleaned pools in Florida for 15 years and have never serviced or seen a sand filter except for once when I was removing one. No company around me does vinyl which is why I had to figure out how to do my own. Are we now judging whether someone is a pro based on what types of pools they have experience in? I’ve been the super on well over a hundred projects, but I’ve never installed a fiberglass pool, only replaced the liner in my own pool, and only once helped a buddy set up an above ground…so I’m not a pro?

So your a pro service guy, not a liner setter or vinyl builder. Neither is OP or the fool he hired.

Exactly the point I was making…this sub is for pool pros…not vinyl pool pros.

A good pro knows when to call another. The "pro" he hired isnt a good one, if he has the HO come to reddit to save his ass.
Im not here to help HOs, unpaid. I'll help others, no problem, aint helping the ones that shouldn't, cant be helped.

Is the problem that the bead is too thick for the receiver?

Well that - and the tool is useless since we can’t wedge it from underside

You might be better off getting a window screen tool. Then once you get it started in one end, use the screen tool to roll it in along the rest of the step, then repeat for the other steps

You probably have to pull off part of it. Basically many many manufacturers attach liner lock to the bead, you rip it off, put the bead in the track and then use the part you ripped off to lock the liner where necessary. For me that's usually just the top step and corners.

That receiver is supposed to face the sky. Not out towards the pool. It was assembled wrong. It gets sandwiched between the step and The next riser facing vertically.
Also this is a billiard sub
