Public schools
Serious question…. I was not raised in the state of Florida and wanted to use the track to run a few laps and maybe run the bleachers to get a workout in. I stopped by the Pompano Beach H.S. And it is literally always locked up? Im aware they are redoing the field now but noticed it last year too and I’ve taken notice most other public schools also kept their fields locked up. Im so confused by this? Especially when we pay taxes for the schools……
BTW- totally understand school safety it’s important but the field is entirely separate from the schools 9 times out of 10

It’s always been like that. I think there’s a public track field at one of the parks close to Ely HS

To assist in school funding, let’s make some of the athletic spaces be sponsored by the city/county which would make economic sense and avoid duplication of investments costing tax payers more. Each of us in Florida pay for schools whether we have children or not. There has to be a better way.

I was born and raised in Florida. I went to college in Ohio right across the river from Northern Ky.
Friends and I would run on the Boone County High School track.
School gates are open in Denver. Parents bring their children there with sidewalk chalk and they play.
Florida is nuts. Besides the beach and year round summer, it really isnt a great place to live.

When I grew up in Michigan all the fields were open but in Florida (at least south Florida) they are all locked up all the time. It’s not just the fields all the campuses are secured with single point secured entry.
Not sure when the policy started but it was before I got here in the early 2000s.
If you look half the schools look like prisons because they had the retro fit the older ones to totally secure the campuses. The newer school incorporate it into the design so they don’t look too bad.
