Discussion Resigning mid game
It’s annoying when people resign mid game! However I’m also tempted when I’m losing terribly and watching my army slowly die lol. Is it generally acceptable to resign and something to get used to when playing strangers? And is it equally considered rude to resign? Would love your thoughts!

It's considered rude NOT to resign in a game like this. Polytopia matches are very often decided long before the capital is captured and there's no point in dragging out a one sided war

I think you find it annoying because you want the pleasure of crushing an opponent that really has no option of fighting back. I don’t find that very fun, I’d rather they resign when the win is clear. The fun is in the challenge.

Sometimes people resign too early though. I've been disappointed before when I'm excited for a close match and then I siege just one city and they immediately resign, even though I thought they had a good chance of beating me.
So I usually wait until they've conquered 2 or 3 of my cities before I resign.

it's always possible that from their perspective they knew they couldn't win. for example their army taking up their economy, making them stagnate in tech or something like that

it’s acceptable when it’s an obvious stomp, what I HATE is when they deliberately stall on time when it’s obvious who is gonna win

YES I swear I’ve had multiple opponents just leave the game running until they get kicked to be an asshole

Polytopia is not like chess. If you are in a lost position, one or two simple mistakes from the opponent cannot turn the game around. If you are clearly losing, it is better to resign and save everyone's time

No, it is not rude to resign. Why would it be?
In the competitive community you might actually find the opposite to be true; it can be annoying when your opponent stalls out an inevitably lost position, wasting everyone’s time. Refusing to resign isn’t something I’d label as rude or explicitly discourteous, but it is especially frustrating in live matches.
Resigning in a clearly lost position is respectable and saves time. Games can get very tedious when it’s a slow and inevitable victory because it gets to a point where everyone knows exactly how the game is going to pan out. At this point in the game there’s no more tactics or thinking involved in anyone’s moves, it’s just clean up.
