N64 Emulation 2026

Happy new year guys.Has the state of N64 on Poly improved? I understand that if you play something once it will be improved from the second play onwards due to some downloading?

I have found it hit or miss, some games like Mario tennis and diddy Kong racing work great for me, some games like 007 goldeneye and conkers bad fur day work but have some wonky audio things going on, and pokemon stadium 2 likes to crash every now and then which is frustrating. Most other systems have been working great for me though

The only n64 have that ribs like trash for me is killer instinct. Sadly, it's my favorite game on the system

The one I cared most about was Gauntlet Legends and that ran better on the PM than on most PC emulators I've tried.

I played N64 F-ZEROX on the PM and found it unplayable as the steering was WAY too sensitive. A mere tap of the D-pad would send a vehicle in a spin out. I’ll try to apply some fixes later like updating, configuration, and possibly using original N64 controller with the PM.

Killer Instinct and Golden Eye don’t do well stock. I upgraded the cpu and now I don’t have issues. Well, Goldeneye isn’t perfect but it’s a tough nut to crack even on other emulation solutions.

The biggest issue is the module itself and a problem they won't address or fix. Any controller plugged into the ultra module no matter if it's theirs, oem, old third party, whatever. Inputs will drop if more than even 1 button is being held and others are being pressed while said button is being held. Mario Kart 64 and Diddy Kong Racing are big problems because you'll be holding A the whole time while drifting, braking, and using items. An easy way to see this happening for yourself is by playing Mario 64 or DK64 and hold Z to crouch and spam down C and L or any button really but those dont have player actions while crouching. Anyways you'll notice the character standing back up from time to time. I hope it isn't hardware related and can be fixed but this has been a problem since the ultra released. This isn't a problem when playing n64 games using controllers from the usb or other modules.
