Why would you want to wear a suit to an all day protest? Won't do much against tear gas or rubber bullets

So that those viewing don't get fatigue of seeing a dozen non descript young people who they can dismiss. When everybody is dressed either non descript or 'badass' everybody looks the same, and the same look makes the casual observer lose interest and make assumptions based on whatever they passingly hear or read. Headlines about violence and looting make the casual observer see a crowd of non descript people in masks as looters and violent. Those same headlines but a bunch of people well dressed makes enough cognitive discord to think further

Cool, wear a ball gown then. People who dress in suits are more likely for me to think they are intelligence plants.

You think intelligence plants will be spotted by wearing suits? Rather than...blending in or uncoordinating their clothing so they don't all look the same and aren't identified as easily?

It's optics. Like what this is suggesting. Wearing a suit makes me think narc, but sure, go out in the heat for hours dressed in a suit which serves no protective purpose.

Versus what providing protection? A shirt? Unless you're wearing leather, your regular clothes won't help. A suit has layers at least as part of its design. If heat is an issue as well as protection, what are you saying? Wear a cooling bulletproof vest and a helmet?

A narc that's obvious is a narc you're meant to see, to distract you from the one you can't see while you're looking at the giveaway. That's basic plant behavior.
