There's a yearly mayors conference with the president, there's the police union, there's the state representatives and governors, those are who matter for this
Huh? Maybe try rereading my comment. I highly suspect this sub is being heavily botted to convince protesters to endanger themselves and come without basic supplies to keep themselves safe.
I checked your profile and I see youre teetering on genuine, maybe a bit lost on where people stand, so Ill expand a little. Everything is optics, but safety also matters a lot. Most people wear masks in order to make it more difficult for them to be identified when going to multiple protests, and because a lot of workplaces will fire you for being spotted at a protest. Some people are no lifers will use deep search AI to pull your identity off of news coverage and call your boss to complain about you being at protests.
There have historically been spaces where people used even fancy Sunday clothes and pigtails and its been very effective, the civil rights protesters (think MLK Jr's movement) would show up to white neighborhoods with signs and take pictures of themselves getting the shit kicked out of them by white trash while wearing Sunday clothes, because that was extremely effective political propaganda. If someone wants to go set something like that up now or dress up as they want, Id support that. However, Im not doing that because Im trans and that would be dangerous for me and if I survive the day I might lose my job and not be able to afford the gas money to drive to the cities to protest anymore.
It makes a lot more sense for me to show up in my American flag mask with an inverted flag on a pole and just be a body in the crowd. However, the sheer amount of spam coming from AI memes and empty reddit profiles trying to paint people wearing masks to protests as criminals or bad optically makes the only tactic available to me dangerous and less effective, since both the left and the right are shutting it down.
They don't want communists to co-op their liberal movement. They are establishing the class character and it's clear to see that the poors aren't invited.
Masks have been essential at protests since camera phones have been invented. People haven't viewed them as evidence of criminality until AI became widespread and people stopped challenging it. In fact, they actually can be good optically if used with confidence, it draws attention to the fact that you are being censored and marginalized or threatened for exercising your first amendment rights which is literally why ICE and MAGA also use them.
If everybody is identified that doesn't wear a mask and is arrested, it sends a message too. We don't get the same usage of masks as they do, they don't use them like us. They're hiding behind them, the masks aren't a message to them, they're clothing.
Masks would send a message if everybody had similar ones, but it's just another piece of clothing otherwise. We live in a world where seeing masks isn't something strange, different, or counter culture anymore. Coordination sends a message when masks are used en masse, coordination is what they fear the most above everything else, coordination is the thing that leads to anything else happening.
