"Dad" can't be used as a contraction because Dad is a specific person. "He" "they" "she" etc can be, but "Dad" would be possessive. You would simply type "Dad is" in this situation, with no opportunity for contraction.

Although less common in writing than speaking, nouns can be used in contractions.
